Season 5 Episode 12

Hidden Agendas

Aired Saturday 11:30 AM Sep 06, 1997 on FOX

  • Trivia

    • Towards the end of the episode, the rest of the X-Men show up but once the fighting begins the only ones seen are Gambit, Beast, Professor X, and Rogue. At the end when the fighting is over, the other X-Men have completely disappeared. So, all the main characters do appear but only the four above actual have any lines or do anything in this episode.

    • Rogue's gloves are off and on through the entire episode. Even if Gambit has become unaffected by her power, she also touches Sam who is supposedly invulnerable only while using his flying power.

    • Gambit should be passed out because Rogue touched him without her gloves on.

    • Sam (Cannonball) has brown hair in this episode while he is very clearly a blond in a previous flashback montage that Jean has.

  • Quotes

    • Cannonball: Thanks, ma'am--I mean, Ms. LeBeau!
      Rogue: Oh, you're welcome, Sam.
Gambit: So when's the honeymoon, chere?
Rogue: Not one word, swamp rat, not one word.

  • Notes

    • The restaurant where Kenny Jenkins is told that his girlfriend has been cheating on him with Sam is Dan's Diner, which has the same name and a similar appearance to the diner from Wolverine's false kidnapping memory in "Weapon X, Lies, and Video Tape".

    • When Rogue introduces herself to the Guthries, she introduces herself as Miss LeBeau.

    • "Hodge was right about the X-Men." Girkland refers to Cameron Hodge (from "Enter Magneto", "Slave Island", and "The Phalanx Covenant"), who still seems to be working against the X-Men.

    • Paige, Sam's sister, will later, as Husk, became a member of Generation X with Jubilee.

    • Beast reads about Cannonball in Philologist's Quarterly. A philologist studies language; unless Sam was discussed in an article about linguistic variations in the Kentucky coal region, I'm not sure why that journal broke the story.

    • Kennie Jenkins (the young man who accused Sam of seeing his girlfriend) is wearing a shirt with the Punisher's logo.

    • One of the agents comments that Rogue "turned up in the Wideawake data". In the comics, after the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants attempted to assassinate Senator Robert Kelly, the president inaugurated the secret and illegal operation known as Project Wideawake to apprehend and detain genetically empowered individuals. The government contracted Shaw Industries to construct Sentinels in secret.

  • Allusions

    • Mother: You may be Superman when you're flying, but you're just like the rest of us when you're not!
This is an obvious reference to DC Comics' character Superman, who-like Cannonball- has the powers of flight and invulnerability.
