This is such a fun and quirky show. Amusing, and definitely a good show to watch when you're bored. I once watched 10 episodes in a row, so that should tell you something! I have yet to watch the second season, however. I'll get around to it at some point, hopefully...
When I saw this show, I thought it was hilarious! It is very interesting and intriguing. However, it seems that all the episodes are only one episode long. There isn't really any exciting story arcs or anything, that is, in the beginning there's not. I gotta say, things really start to get intense as it approaches the finale of Season 1, and the excitement continues in the very first episode of Season 2. I really like this show and will see it to the end.
Weirdly enough though, I wasn't really ever interested in the show in the first place. The only reason I ever thought about this show is because I am a big fan of the show it crosses over with, Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. It refers to Yuko a lot so I decided to check it out just to see if it was any good. IT WAS!! I went through the entire first season in just one weekend (if I find a good anime, I'm addicted until the show is done). I really enjoy watching this show, I guess I would call it a fun show to watch because I find the main character, Watanuki, histarical. I really like this show and would recomend it to anyone. It's pretty much a PG rating so it's not really bad comparing to more mature shows. I'd say 10 pionts out of 10. (I don't give out 10s that easily.)
Kimihiro Watanuki bares a cursed gift which not only let's him see evil spirits but also attract them also. One day he enters into a mysterious shop run by Yuuko. She offers to remove the gift on one condition; Watanuki must work in her strange shop.
When watching the show, it first reminded me of both "Ouran High School Host Club" and "Petshop of Horrors". This show is mostily about Kimihiro Watanuki a young boy with a cursed gift. He has the ability to see evil spirits, and somehow they seem attracted to himself. In the show they look more like big blobs of tar. But anyway one day, he meets a mysterious woman who names herself Yuuko. She claims to have the means to end his torment, but she never works for free, and she wouldn't help him until he works for her enough to pay for her services. Thus he starts to work in her shop and discovers that in that place, nothing is what it seems. In the show Watanuki, soon finds out that the world is not just different but also every thing has it's own price. I reconmend this anime to those who have fallen in love with "Cased Closed" "Card Captor" or even "Clamp School Detectives".
A dark themed anime that draws you into it's magic themed world. It gives you manly outlooks on human behaviors and teaches valuable lessons. The old logic of nothing can be gained without sacrifices is highlighted throughout the series. CLAMP's spinnoff from Tsubasa in my opinion is amazing. It does'nt have the usual components of a regular anime but that's why I like it. Yuko guilds Kimihiro through the lessons of life that will help you grow. While it has it's serious themes Yuko and the occupants of her home provide comedy. It's a very interesting outlook on life and magic.
It is about a boy calls Kimihiro Watanuki, is a high school student who is continually plagued by supernatural monsters (youkai) and spirits which are magically attracted to him. The creatures are invisible to all but him, and as a result he feels extremely burdened by them. When he quite literally stumbles into a shop that grants wishes, his life changes drastically. Within the shop is the seductively beautiful Yuko Ichihara, a witch of many names and esoteric renown. The seemingly all-knowing witch soon gets down to business: she offers to grant Watanuki's wish to be rid of his ability to see spirits. However, a price equal to the power required to grant the wish must be paid. Yûko discovers that Watanuki is very skilled with his hands and a hard worker. As a result, Watanuki soon finds himself forced to perform housework and odd jobs for Yûko until he has done enough work for his wish to be granted. Besides, XXX Holic is authored by CLAMP(the Cardcartor Sakura, Choblts and Tsubasa Cronicle's author) but I prefer the story in manga......
Watanuki Kimihiro is a high school boy with the strange(and to him, annoying) ability to see strange spirits. In a twist of fate, he finds himself in a strange shop, owned by a beautiful witch known as Ichihara Yuko. This peculiar character is wise, yet perky, and offers to get rid of Watanuki's "spirit-sight", with the price of having to work for her and do various chores around her shop.
As the story continues, many others characters with various habits and addictions (hence the title, somewhat of an equivalent to ____-holic) stumble into the shop, equally as confused as Watanuki originally was. This is concordant to the major theme of fate, or rather, the idea that all events in time are related - nothing is coincidence; everything happens to serve the purpose of causing the next event in time to happen.
Enough background. The show is honestly nothing like I have ever seen: it's quirky and strange, and is, like Chobits (another CLAMP work), a show that actually makes you think about things. CLAMP has a knack for writing some wonderfully unique material, and xxxHOLiC is definitely a must-see for anime fans that like saying "...woah..." after a good episode.
This show is a classic. I love this show a lot! Although the animation can be crappy here and there, it's still worth watching. They have done a good job following with the manga so far. I like the plot and the music. It just makes me feel good in some way. The thing that makes me angry though, is that they cut off Tsubasa. It would of been lovely if we could of seen Watanuki take out the Mokonas and made them argue. Go try and watch xxxHOLiC when you can. I am sure that you'll like it. :D
XXXholic is crossover anime to Tsubasa another CLAMP work. Yuko own a shop that make your wish come true but it cost you . Watanuki then mystery came to the shop , he have problem with spirits they alway follow him and brother him . Yuko can see why these spirites like Watanuki because of his blood attracts spirites. So Yuko makes his wish that these spirites do not brother him again in return he have to work for Yuko. XXXholic is mystery and maybe scary show but it all good.
I don't understand why most of you don't like this show. It's very interesting to read because of it's weird conflicts about how Yuuko-san is granting wishes and the world that Watanuki doesn't know! Some parts are a bit scary like the part when the ceremony of 100 ghosts stories. The graphics are perfect! (I always like CLAMP cartoons including Tsubasa Chronicle and Cartcaptor Sakura) xxxHOLIC is a show that some parts crosses over with Tsubasa Chronicle, which made the manga even more interesting. So that's why I read this cartoon and it doesn't deserve a 7.7 too! It deserves full 10!!!
I'm a huge fan of works by Clamp, and I have to say, this is my favorite. It's such a complex story, that reels you in with each new episode. The plot is made even more complex by the crossing paths of the Tsubasa plotline and the Holic one. It's refreashing to see such originality in something. It has to be the only show I know of that does this. I think some viewers (and readers, if you're a fan of the manga) are turnerd off by the twisting stories, and such, but this sort of show is right up my ally. Kudos, Clamp!
this is the storey of a yong boy who can se evil spirits one day he walks right in to a store by mistake he wold say but to the owner it was destind to happen. the owner tells him that this is a store that can grant whishis and so he wants to make a whish but there is a price so untill he can pay he has to work there as a part time job. and this is how a great story is created.
it is hard to understand the story but if you can tink it thru you will love this mystery show i persenoly give it a 9/10 for the story
the anime itself the drawing of it is quite extra ordinary the pepole is realy tall but i just think that it givs the comedy of the body languesh a big boost. and giv it 8/10
the musik in the show is one of the greater that i have heard in a long time i normaly skipp the opening and the ending music on most animes but whit this i always lissten to them. this is a 10/10
all and all its one of the greater anime series that i have seen and i will give it a 9/10 as grade
Like I said this show is not as much as it's cracked up to be. Sure, if you like quirky as all hell asian-styled humor shows then, I don't know, watch something funny like Aqua Teen. This is just not a very solid show, I guess it's just personal preference but this kind of humor is not nearly as funny to me as say, South park, Family guy or the like. I say switch the channel or hey, even get out of the house and march around the neighborhood stating to everyone in an over-elaborate Dutch accent. "My regime will cleanse all that resist"
xxxHOLiC has to be my favorite work from CLAMP. They took many recycled ideas, including their own, and made it new and refreshing!
Not only that, but Production I.G\'s work makes the show gorgeous! Production I.G doing the animation for one of CLAMP\'s creations is certainly a dream team. Production I.G\'s style is most apparent in the Tsubasa Chroncile movie, which xxxHOLiC main character Yuuko makes a cameo appearance in. Production I.G did not do the animation in the regular series of Tsubasa Chronicle, so the team made that movie look fantastic! They\'ve gone from giant robots to cyborgs to a shop that grants wishes? Isn\'t that just amazing. Okay, my production I.G rants is over. They are just amazing. I am now a part of four guides that have used them in some way.
Anyway, while it is disappointing that this show will not cross over with Tsubasa, it allows for some more creativity. Watanuki and Yuuko can be seprate from Syaoran and Sakura. I mean, Tsubasa Chronicle already has Yuuko in it all the time, so why not make this it\'s own show? The manga crosses over and that really is enough. However, they are skipping some stories from the manga and doing things differently, but I always say things should be done differently. It\'s called creative change. Why watch something exactly the same as something you\'ve already read, right? So, it\'s great and it always leaves room for surprise.
All in all, the anime looks great, the storyline is terrific and it\'s all around fun. I would reccomend this show to anyone who has liked CLAMP\'s previous works, or anime in general. But, I would not let someone who has not experienced anime let this be there first. I give the show a 10 because I love it so much.
