Thurman Munson was one of the greatest New York Yankees catchers of all time. Throughout his stellar career, Munson battled through bumps and bruises and constantly being hurt. However, that didn't stop him from playing the game of baseball. Munson owned a tiny jet and had taken flying lessons. Every so often, he would fly down to visit his family. Eventually, Munson upgraded to a faster and more powerful jet. Munson had never had any training on this one; only the other one. One time, he went to fly to his family. He arrived there safely. He spent some time with his family until he realized something wrong with the jet. He took it for a test run. It was then that Munson crashed and was immediately killed. The Yankees lost their captain in 1979. At his funeral, eulogies were given by Lou Piniella and Bobby Murcer. The Yankees held Thurman Munson night at that night's game, while everyone in the stands was shocked and heartbroken at this terrible loss. In the game, it was Bobby Murcer who delivered the winning hit. He presented the game-used bat to Thurman Munson' wife. Thurman Munson finished his career with a .292 career batting average, 113 home runs, and 701 runs batted in. He was one of the greatest players in Yankees mystique both on and off the field and his memory will never be forgotten by yankees fans across the country.moreless
