Tom enters retirement, leading Greg to wonder what the elder Warner will be doing with his time once he and the missus arrive in L.A. for their usual visit. A humiliated Natalie informs her son that Tom has turned into a comic book junkie--one who's obsessed with Superman to the point of playing dress-up. With her insistent that he do something about his father's regression, Greg asks Jimmy to help him get his old man interested in some more atypical old man hobbies. Like golf. And model cars. And motorized airplanes. After Tom strikes out at all those things, he asks Greg to join him at the San Diego Comicon, in order to understand where he's coming from. Greg reluctantly goes with Jimmy, where he meets Tom's pre-pubescent internet buddies, and suffers through them all doing a Superman talent show. After the show, Greg tells Tom that he should be ashamed of himself, and Tom finally admits that he has something in common with Superman -- they're both adopted. Meanwhile, when a woman thinks Emily is a boy, due to her mother giving the tot Sam's hand-me-downs, Natalie criticizes Kim's taste in baby clothes so much that Kim throws up her hands and lets Natalie go shopping for Emily -- an errand which makes her want to shop for Kim, as well.
