Episode Summary

Smoke and Mirrors / Yin-credible!
Smoke and Mirrors: A new girl named Smoke comes into town claiming to want to be Yang's friend, and she likes all the stuff Yang likes! But there's one thing Yang didn't count on, her capturing him to be her slave champion in a tournament fighting game. Now Smoke's brother, Mirrors, plans on getting his own rabbit champion to fight against Smoke's rabbit champion. And he picks Yin. Will Yin and Yang have to fight each other, or can they turn the tables on Smoke and Mirrors? Yin-credible!: Carl's latest plan of attacking the city is capturing the town's President. Even though Yin and Yang both work together to stop Carl's plot, Yin is offered and takes all the credit for doing the job by herself. Naturally, Yang feels jaded but he has bigger things to worry about. Carl has decided to fight back and with the power of earphones, he won't be able to hear the insults that usually throw him off! Can Yin save the day by herself for real, or will she be forced to swallow her pride and apologize to Yang?moreless

  • Yang learns that the trees aren't always greener on the other side, and Yin just can't stop putting her foot in her mouth! :P

Even though I love this show, it's hard to review episodes. On the one hand, we've got a lot of episodes that are winners and on the other hand, giving these episodes all perfect ten ratings kind of dilutes the factor of rating episodes and shows a perfect ten. Normally, if an episode is good, I start at a 6 and ratchet up .4 points for everything good that I can remember about that episode until I reach ten points (although there are a lot of times where I want to go higher and can't.) In this case, a good episode is a good episode. Yang learns that you can't trust a girl just because she likes the same stuff as you do. Of course, Lena does but Yin isn't about to let Yang know that anytime soon! And for as smart as Yin acts sometimes, she can do some pretty irresponsible things, such as taking all the credit for a successful rescue. And Carl decides to imply somthing the good guys usually do and learn from his mistakes! He can't get distracted by insults if he can't hear them, so he wears earphones so he can concentrate on his plans. And if that wasn't bad enough, Yin can't insulate her way out of a paper bag to save her life! (Not that she's ever had to before! ) So now she has to do something she considers to be Truly terrible: apologize to Yang. She'll be hearing about That event for a week! But that's what you get when you're a pushy, know-it-all nag! That's my review for today! Enough said, true believers! ;)moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • When Smoke is gonna electrocute Yang, her Prison Prism is yellow like Mirrors, when her Prism is supposed to be pink instead.

    • A running gag in this episode is that Lena keeps trying to tell Yang that she likes him and likes the things he does. But Yin keeps interrupting.

    • It's learned in this episode that Carl is only bothered by Yang's insults mainly because Yin can't throw good insults at Carl.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Yang: So, Carlina, this plan suck as much as all your other ones?
Carl: My plan does not suck! You really think my plan sucks?
Yang: All of your plans suck harder then four sumo wrestlers with one straw!

    • Yin: Think you can give the comedy act a rest, so we can kick some butt?
Yang: Hey, let's play the "stop being a buzz-kill" game. You start!

    • Lena: You think Yang's okay?
Yin: Lena, we can either sit here and scrapbook, or I can go and look for my brother. What would you prefer? (scene switches to Yin in a field) Well, that wasn't the answer I was expecting!

  • NOTES (1)

    • Smoke and Mirrors:
This is similar to a phrase for illusion/ deceit, "Smoke and Mirrors"

    • Anime: The episode, "Smoke and Mirrors", parodies other animes.
Mirror's hair is a parody of anime characters who have long spiky hair (Goku from Dragon Ball Z, Yugi from Yu-Gi-Yo, etc). Smoke and Mirrors fight with either a giant sword or with their own fist, this parodies fighting animes like Dragon Ball Z.
Smoke and Mirrors talk really fast. This is a reference to anime dubs back in the 1960s and '70s like Astro Boy, Gigantor, Speed Racer, and other animes.

    • Sailor Moon: Smoke's sibling enters as he throws a rose and dose a standing pose facing his right and his head facing downwards. This is similar to Tuxedo Kamen/Mask from the anime Sailor Moon.

    • Love Connection: The short T.V. parody of Bachorlorette-Off is a parody of the popular 1980's dating game originally hosted by Chuck Woolery.

    • Pokemon: The idea of capturing creatures and using them to fight other creatures has been used in many versions of this popular Nintendo game. In addition, the Pikachu character parody is seen again in this episode. Just like the real thing, the creature can evolve and in it's unevolved form at least, it is called a Cutiechu.
