Gillian Apple was a down-to-earth divorcee raising her two children, teenage daughter Mickey and prepubescent son Travis. But her life was turned on its ear when she wandered into Madman Mustapha's Rug Shop in search of a purple rug for her house. She got her rug, plus the genie who'd been imprisoned in it for 2,000 years. The no nonsense Gillian just wanted to lead a normal life and instill a good sense of morals into her children. Zany Genie, on the other hand, had a zest for life and wanted to live it to the fullest, despite the fact that Gillian disliked making wishes. A few weeks into the series, Genie's Grampa Max was saved from going on "the big ride," and he came to live with the family.''
