Episode Summary

Winning Isn't Everything
It's the weekend of the annual Rawley Regatta, the biggest race of the year for the crew team, but everyone's minds are distracted by the approaching Parent's Weekend. Scout is excited about introducing Bella to his dad, her real father, but she is more savvy to what the Senator's reaction may actually be. Meanwhile, Will reaches out to his own father, and Jake has to hide her new identity from her self-absorbed mother.moreless

  • Not the greatest episode, but still a few fun moments.

I felt like they just did this episode to show Jake in a dress. Since her mom has come to town, and she needs to be there for the race, she has to go back and forth, changing clothes. It gets annoying after a while. I did like the moment between Jake and Hamilton, when he said he thought he would only have the chance to see her in a dress at a gay pride parade. Funny stuff!

I found it sad for Bella about not meeting her "dad." What a difficult situation for both her and Scout. I'm glad she at least got to speak with the Senator on the phone, even if she didn't let on who she was.moreless

    • Jake: Um. Ah. This is great, but ah, don't you think you should get back to New York right, like now?
Monica: Can I ask you something?
      Jake: No.
Monica: Why did you pretend that you and Hamilton don't know each other when it's clear that's not the case?
      Jake: What're you talking about?
Monica: Are you sleeping with him?
      Jake: What?
Monica: I saw you heading over to his dorm yesterday. We can talk about it.
      Jake: It.
Monica: Sex. Let's talk about sex.

    • Scout: I don't wanna see your face no more.
      Bella: Scout!
      Scout: What?
Bella: That's so easy. Lenny Kravitz, American Women.

    • Jake: My mom's coming.
      Hamilton: Oh my God.
Jake: She takes 5 minutes away from the stage to come see me and I'm not me. I'm someone I invented to mess with her head to make her realize she doesn't know me at all. That's why I did this, to get her attention. To make her notice.
      Hamilton: Think she'll notice?
Jake: She's self centered. She's not blind.

    • Scout: I thought getting older would feel better than this.

    • Will: Look, I'm no expert on dads. But that's what you have, Bella. A little piece of possibility. Meeting Senator Calhoun wouldn't take anything away from what you have with Charlie.

    • Hamilton: (to Jake) Last week, the only time I thought I'd see you in a dress would be at the gay pride parade.

    • Bella: Scout's phone. Oh, no he just left his phone over here, but I'm walking over to him right now. This is Bella. No, I don't work with him. Nope, don't go to Rawley Girls. Who may I ask is interrogating me? Oh, yeah, it's nice to meet you too.
