Episode Summary

Years into the future, Domino City has evolved into New Domino City, and a new dueling system dominates. Yusei Fudo, a duelist stuck in the dingy satellite area, is determined to somehow improve his duel runner and go after his rival Jack Atlas, who stole his runner, his best card, and his potential fame. Yusei's friend Rally gives him a chip that could help him boost his runner's speed, but Sector Security comes looking for Rally. Yusei tricks the security and leads them on a chase. After ending the chase, Yusei engages in a duel with security officer Trudge, and if he wins then Trudge and security have to leave Rally alone.moreless

  • The next generation of dueling...5D!

A good start to the season. I liked some of the plot and name changes, some, not all. The whole Jack setting Rally up was ok and so was the Trudge working for Jack thing. But I don't get how Yusei and Trudge could know each other from the academy. Maybe Trudge was a guard at the academy or something? Switching the name to Turbo Duels was ok, I find the name suitable. But switching the name from D-Wheels to Duel Runners kind of irritates me. Oh and that voice thing that explains the cards was kind of irritating. Actually scratch that it was very annoying and I think it would have been better to just have the characters explain their own cards. But overall I liked it and glad some of the names stayed the same. It was intresting to see the show in English.moreless
  • On Your Mark, Get Set, Duel!

Yusei introduces us to Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's with a great duel against Trudge. The brand new monsters known as Tuners and Synchro Summons as well as shows us a Riding Duel. Personally, the Sub is better than the Dub, but the Dub does do a nice job.

Rally arrives at the base with a stolen chip for Yusei, but Security is on him upon reaching home. Yusei sets off on his D-Wheel to lure them away and save his friends, however he is interupted by Trudge and challenges him to a duel. Trudge accepts and they ride off activating Speed World. Yusei manages to keep himself up while Trudge uses his deck to put him in a bind. That's all turned around when Trudge summons Montage Dragon. Yusei activates a card and reverses his Cufflink Dragon onto Montage Dragon, preventing it from attacking and spliting its attack points down the middle before ending it with Junk Synchron. Trudge has lost and keeps to his end of the deal.moreless
  • Meh.....satisfactory

This is about the dub version episode. Cause there can be some big differences. The dub...well, it was alright. They kept it preatty close, but there are a few things I didnt like. Yusei, Stop

The dub tried to make Yusei sound cool by giving him all those dumb lines. If you ask me, just let Yusei be Yusei, dont try to change his character from a serious and collected duelist to some junkee who wants to be liked.

    Trudge knoing Yusei

The dub added a stupid plotline that Yusei and Trudge know one another from an academy of sorts. Dubbers..Yusei is 18, and Trudge is like effing 50! They NEVER could have meet a school unless Ushio has a teacher.

    Jack the Bigger D**ch*b*g

The dub also added the subplot that Jack set up the Rally stealing the chip thing. [sarcasticly: Right, cause no one steals ANYTHING in America]. Wow, I didnt think it was possible, but the dub made Jack seem like a bigger d**ch*.

Overall, it was alright. The voices seemed to fit the characters alright. Rally is still a shemale, there are still two parts to the city, Jack is still the world's biggest ***, still preatty close to the Japaneise version.

I cant wait for episode 13 when the twins appear. I swear, if 4Kids does a bad job with them, I am going on a muderous rampage at their headquarters.moreless
  • Give it a chance people

Alright, I was a little tenative about starting this series, because of how bad GX was (I'll admit it had its moments... rarely) and how bad people said this episode is. But I gave GX a good enough chance (about 110 episodes before giving up) so I thought it was only fair that I do the same for this series. After watching the first episode, I quickly realized that there has not been a legitimate complaint against this series. There has been plenty of "the shop is crap because they're dueling on motorcycles", but seriously people, get over it. Whether they do it standing still, on motorcycles, or inside a fricken submarine, it is still dueling. Quite honestly, I feel it adds a level of excitement to the duel, and the duels are still carried out in a very similar fashion to the duels of Yu-Gi-Oh! and Yu-Gi-Oh! GX!, and we are going to get duels with Duel Disks, so everyone should be happy. How awesome was Jack Atlus? It took me about five minutes before I decided he was going to be my favorite character. Although I have to admit Yusei wasn't too bad either. It's nice to have a main character who isn't all "friendship is good and I love friendship. Friendship. Friendship. Friendship". Of course, this is only episode one, so things could change. The cameos by Blair Flannigan (unnamed, so probably just the character design) and Ushio (the bully from Season Zero Episode One) were quite nice, and the fact that Yusei and Jack seem to use the same deck type (Synchro/Tuner) is quite interesting. Personally I'm kinda hoping that when Jack and Yusei duel, Jack comes out on top so that there rivalry isn't a complete Yugi/Kaiba ripoff. Other then that, I really enjoyed this episode, and am looking forward to the next one.moreless
  • AWESOME!!!!!

The new show Yu-gi-oh 5D's rules!!! I love the plot line of it so far, and the main character has actually finished puberty. The stroy begins the new Duel Riding King Jack Atlas beating a challenger and watching it all is our hero Yusei Fudo. He's fixing up his D-wheel when all of a sudden one of his friends is found stealing something. Yusei then takes on one of the copsthat are following him. After beating him, he promises to defeat Jack. This new series demonstrates a new way of fusion called Syncrho Summoning which is awesome. As a Yu-gi-oh fan, I can't wait to see the rest of this series unfold.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (5)

    • The Duel between Yusei and Trudge ends in a similar manner to the first duels in the previous Yu-Gi-Oh! series. In all three series, the protagonist defeats their opponent's monster, with an ATK of 3000, and wins the duel. In the first series, Yugi defeated Kaiba's Blue Eyes White Dragon and in the second, Jaden defeated Crowler's Ancient Gear Golem. Here, Yusei defeats Trudge's Montage Dragon.

    • Featured Duels: Jack vs Hunter Pace, Yusei vs. Trudge

    • Trudge is based on Ushio, the bully to Joey, Tristan, and Yugi in the first Yu-Gi-Oh! series.

    • This series introduces a new kind of summoning called Synchro Summon. A new kind of dueling is also introduced: Riding Duel. Duelists must ride their Duel Runners and use them as duel disks.

    • Unlike Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, which did not take place in Domino City except for a few episodes, this series goes back to the original setting, now known as New Domino City.

  • QUOTES (1)

    • Tank: So, where you been, Yuse?
Yusei: The tunnels, testing a New acceleration chip.
Tank: So, are You gonna tell us if the new chip worked out, or what?
Blitz: Duh, Tank, does it look like it worked?
Tank: I guess not. although, hey, your other runner looked great on TV--
      Blitz: Tank!
Tank: Just trying to make our friend fell better is all! that is Yusei's Duel Runner. I mean, if it weren't for Jack double-crossing Yuse and stealing His ride, Yuse would have been given that interview. Well, cause Jack got all famous with Yuse's Runner, all the fame, Fortune, and Glory are Jack's Now.
      Blitz: Tank!
      Tank: What?

  • NOTES (4)

    • Blair (or someone who looks like her) from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, makes a cameo appearance as one of the cheerleaders.

    • In this episode, two boys who look similar to Rex Raptor and Weevil Underwood are seen getting ready to duel. Although in the English adaptation, they are not seen.

    • In the dub version, Yusei and Trudge seemed to know one another from time spent at some kind of academy. In the original, Yusei and Trudge are meeting for the first time in this episode.

    • In the dub version, Rally is framed for stealing the chip by Trudge, who is working for Jack. The situation is different in the original version, where Rally actually does steal the chip and Jack has nothing to do with it.
