I didn't think it sounded harsh. Its just the truth. I know its logical, the show but still its not that all logical. The Japanese original has more logic in it than the dub! Egyptian priests compared to guardians? Death compared to getting sent to the shadow realm? C'mon!

You are absolutely correct. I have no problems with editing blood or scenes of extreme violence but 4Kids goes overboard with it and edits out stuff that any other company would let slide. Justice League, in the same block on WB, shows stuff that 4Kids thinks is inappropriate.

Not only that, but they have to re-write the script. There are plot changes, and unneeded Americanizations. Harry Potter isn't set in the United States and last I saw it was pretty popular amongst American children. 4Kids is just a terrible company, there is no other way around it. Even from a financial standpoint they are going down the toilet.

Tell me about it! 4kids make changes to the script that don't even need to be changed! Like that one time during the episode which was the night before the start of the Duelist Kingdom Finals. The scene where Joey was sleeping in his room; in the original he was dreaming about Shizuka and in the dub, he was dreaming about donuts... What was the point to that change and why would 4kids compare Shizuka to donuts?

That was to make Joey look like a idiot.

I think it's because little kids wouldn't understand why he'd be dreaming about his sister. (That is is sister, right?)

    Poor Joey...

Yeah Shizuka is his sister. Its just Serenity's original name. (For some reason I like to call the characters by both their dub and original names.)

No... In the dubbed he wants his sister to see, but mainly he wants to be the best at dueling and thinks he can do anything.

But it's nice when they have times when he's serious.
I think there was a time during... I guess it was right before he dueled Mai in Duelist Kingdom. He's being all silly, but then he gets really serious all of the sudden. Then he has that flashback about him and Serenity at the beach.

I think they probably just cut it out to add some comedy to the episode. That would be the most likely.

They have a reputation for striking out with comedy - dumb dub jokes. Sometimes they actually have a good one, but most of the time they just screw everything up.

That's the Battle City storyline in the original. He wants to prove that he is a true duelist.

In Duelist Kingdom, he is only dueling because he wants to win the prize money for his sister.

This is what I mean about unnecessary changes.

Making changes 4kids is annoying, because they often all of sudden have to make up a scene that doesn't go with the plot.
As for why Joey was in the Battle City, I think it was also to support Yu-gi, so not JUST to prove something.

There were too many changes in the storyline, too. Did anyone notice that?

In the original, Jounouchi is there to prove to himself that he has the skills and pride of a true duelist. This is why he won't accept the Red Eyes from Yugi. All throughout Duelist Kingdom, Yugi bails him out. He gets a big victory over Bandit Keith, but in the manga anyways he then stands aside to let Yugi take on Pegasus. There is a big scene on the beach with Jounouchi & Honda after he loses the Red Eyes that establishes Jounouchi's motive for Battle City. In it he is moping about how he thinks he has disappointed Shizuka, so Honda picks a fight with him to try to motivate him to prove himself at Battle City. This is also why he splits up from Yugi for the first part of Battle City. He wants to win these duels on his own, so he and Yugi agree to go their seperate ways after the Yugi/Rare Hunter duel. He's not there just to support Yugi.

Joey changes a lot during the Battle City. He matures quite a bit, and doesn't fool around AS much.
But, when he parted with Yu-gi, it seemed like their friendship wasn't as simple and strong as it was during the Dualist Kingdom.

P.S. I'm not exactly a Joey fan, so hopefully I don't sound too biased on this.

Joey's cool and funny, but I don't really know what it is, but he's missing something that'll make him a favourite.

You're very welcome to try to guess at what it could be.
