Kaiba is back again in this episode!!!

In the beginning Pegasus is talking to the Big Five. he tells them that everything is under control. Meanwhil Kaiba is in his helicopter flying to duelist Kingdom to save his brother Mokuba. He lands right where Yugi, Joey, Tea, Tristan and Bakura have set out a sort of campsite. Joey, Tristan and Tea are asleep while yugi and Bakura are sitting and talking about their millenium items. When the helicopter lands everyone awakens. Kaiba tries to avoid yugi but is unable to. Yugi returns his deck to him. Joey tries to challenge Kaiba to a duel and insults him. Kaiba agrees on doing so but only if they use his new technology. They begin to duel but Joey loses very quickly and his confidence gets lost. The others get mad at Kaiba for destroying his confidence just when he is beginning to believe in himself.Kaiba ignores them and heads to the castle to try and defeat Pegasus to win back Mokuba. There is a flshback in which Pegasus was dueling a guy (Bandit Keith) in the final battle. Kaiba was invited to watch. Pegasus told BK that he was so weak that even a little kid could beat him. Pegasus called a kid who was just beginning to learn Duel monsters from the audience (Sam)BK said that it was illegal to ask for help but Pegasus told him that he wasn't asking for help. Pegasus wrote something on a piece of paper and told Sam to do what it says. Sam did and won. BK was so angry and humiliated. Anywayz....Yugi and his friends then began to go back to sleep.

    THE END.

Well.........................this episode was.....welll...how should I put it.......tolerable...satisfactory...up to scratch...it was okay. Not to much dueling which I guess is okay. 7.5 I give it.moreless
  • We are introduced to the idea of a duel disk for the first time.

    8.3
A duel between Joey and Kaiba introduces the first duel disk. Now, this one is nowhere near as advanced as the current ones, but still pretty good. The way kaiba beat Joey was good, so Kaiba. Poor Joey...but never underestimate the underdog. The scene with Pagasus and the board memebers, sets it up for later seasons and the Big 5. Kaiba's attitude is at it's best, in your face and rude as ever.moreless
  • AND THEY ACTUALLY EXPECT JOEY TO GO TO THE FINALS??

    9.3
Ookay, while the duel was okay, and the new battling system was awesome, I don't get why Joey just played weaker monsters? He is really an idiot, he played armored lizard in ATTACK MODE! My seven year old sister would know better to put that in defense mode? And wha thappenedto spell and trap cards? The only one played in the duel was Polymerization by Kaiba. How can Joey expect to go to the finals...oh well he must be really lucky. I still don't get why the Battle Ox is only resistant to fire in this particular episode...eh..guess it was just for the show.moreless
  • Kaiba vs. Joey, Round 1: and so it begins!

    9.4
Chemistry 101: Mix two opposite elements together for the first time, the results are unpredictable. Heat up a mixture under pressure, all that's guaranteed is an explosion. The cool calm and collected Kaiba and bold and brassy Joey clash for the first time to disastrous results. While most long-term rivalries end with a critical, unforgettable one-on-one clash, this one is just beginning instead. The only pair it's more satisfying to watch push each others buttons besides Yugi and Kaiba is Yugi and Joey. Thank goodness these two never pass up an opportunity to go at it, or we'd miss some of the greatest moments in Yu-Gi-Oh.

Kaiba: It's a new, high-tech dueling device that allows players the realism of arena matches in any setting.

Joey: looks like just a regular old briefcase to me.

Kaiba: It's *in* the briefcase, you moron.

    ----

Kaiba: Anyone who's late for registration will be disqualified. Mokuba, make sure Wheeler's late. (He doesn't even change his tone, no pause, doesn't miss a beat.)

    ----

Joey: One potatoe, two potatoe, three potatoe...

Kaiba: Just pick a door, you geek!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (2)

    • Featured Duel: Joey vs. Kaiba

    • When Joey summons Flame Swordsman, Yugi tells him that the Battle Ox is resistant to all Fire type monsters, but Battle Ox is a normal type monster not an effect monster so Flame Swordsman should have been able to destroy it.

  • QUOTES (12)

    • Kaiba: It was at the intercontinental tournament, in New York City. I had been invited - as Pegasus's guest of honor. A skilled hotshot duelist called Bandit Keith had made it to the final match. He was playing well. But I could see that Pegasus was still just toying with him. Of course... Keith had no idea.

    • Joey: What'ta ya say, money bags? Care to prove me wrong?
      Kaiba: On one condition.
      Everyone: Huh?

    • Bandit Keith: Any final words, Cutie Pie? Hey - I'm talkin' to you!

    • Kaiba: It's just like a novice to rejoice when there's no reason to celebrate. True, the round may be yours, but the duel is about to become mine.

    • Kaiba: Don't be so naive. This isn't just a game for me, Yugi.
      Yugi: Huh?
Kaiba: I'm going after Pegasus to save my brother - not so I can win some silly prize. Have fun with your tournament.

    • Kaiba: Hmph. I don't have time for your nonsense. Loser.
Joey: Go ahead and run. Everyone knows you're nothin' but a washed-up has-been!
Yugi: Joey, be careful what you say. Kaiba may be a creep, but he's still pretty much considered the top duelist in all the world.
Joey: Not any more. (Kaiba looks over his shoulder.) That's right, tough guy! I'd bet ever since Yugi mopped the floor with ya, you can't even lay a trap card without flinchin'!

    • Joey: (to Kaiba in his chopper) Hey, some of us are trying to get a little shut eye here, you insensitive jerk!

    • (Joey was pushed onto the ground by Kaiba)
      Bakura: Check his pulse, Yugi!

    • (Kaiba activates his disk.)
      Tristan: Whaoah! It's raining glitter!
Téa: Yeah! It's like something from an enchanted dream... (Battle Ox appears) Eww! Or a nightmare!

    • Kaiba: (lifts up his briefcase) It's a new high-tech dueling device that allows players the realism of arena matches in any setting.
Joey: Looks like just a regular old briefcase to me.
Kaiba: It's in the briefcase, you moron.

    • Joey: Set the card, spin the disk, and viola.

    • Kaiba: Don't bother me! Go find an opponent you can actually beat, like an infant, or a monkey.
      Joey: Errrg!
Tristan: That monkey crack gets him every time!

  • NOTES (1)

    • In the manga after a card is beaten it is flicked out of Kaiba's duel disk. Joey promptly runs after his card the first time this happens and Tea tells him to pick them up at the end of the duel.
