  • Yusuke watches Kuwabara

    9.0
While waiting for his spirit egg to hatch, Yusuke's estimation of Kazuma Kuwabara rises stemming from the rare opportunity to observe his goofy rival dealing with two teacher going out of their way to hurt him, expel him and ruin a friend's life.
  • Feelings

    8.5
This episode marks the beginning of a long friendship-rivalry between Yusuke and Kuwabara.

It gives a simple challenge for the red-head to overcome and for Yusuke to spectate. I love how they establish that the teachers are so terribly corrupt from the beginning, giving the idea that the main characters aren't the way they are "just because." They have "the man" to fight against and not a lot of support on their side, which is why they have to stick together, even in their rivalry. And that respect is beyond important later on.

It's a great character development episode, as well as a world-building one. it gives much needed insight on the main characters' hometown, allowing the viewer to believe in them as everyday kids.moreless
  • Perhaps the only episode solely about Kuwabara....

    8.5
This episode focuses on Kuwabara and his friends......

Since Yusuke has to do good deeds to make his egg hatch the right way, he follows Kuwabara around as a spirit to watch over him. Kuwabara goes through quite a bit in this episode. Being harrased by bad teachers, and these teachers are really bad people, getting beat up, and having to pass a test (Kuwabara's not exactly the smartest guy at the momment lol)! This episode was actually funny also, but it also shows us a different side to Kuwabara.

This episode is good, but still no big action action scenes, but fear not, there is action soon to come! Still a good episode of course.....moreless
  • Kuwabara, A true friend till the end.

    9.5
This episode reveals so much about Kuwabara. You think that Kuwabara is just a street thug that is going to result to nothing in his life and his only goal is to fight Yusuke, but in fact you are all wrong. Kuwabara is a loving and true friend. He shows these characteristics in this episode, He is forced not to fight for one week and he has to score 50% or more on his next test or his friend Okubo will lose his after school job. So Kuwabara studys and doesnt fight for one week. Even when street thugs from other schools came after him. He just stood there and took it. All and all this episode reveals Kuwabara's true perseverence and his character.moreless
  • this is basically an episode about kuwabara.

    9.0
after giving yusuke his ordeal,i guess togashi felt the need to develop the character of kuwabara.kuwabara, yusuke's rival and his gang of friends get into a fight with boys from another school.one teacher from their school hears about this and tells them that he will get one of his friends fired from the part-time job with which he supports his family.kuwabara then promises that teacher not to fight for a whole week.he is then attacked by many rivals from other schools but does not raise even a finger to protect himself.but the teacher tells him to also get at least 50 marks in his biology test.kuwabara does so but the teacher cheats and gives him only 48.kuwabara is about attack him but yusuke reaches out to him and stops him.then the principal intervenes and makes him give kuwabara the marks he deserves.thus he fulfilled his promise between men.i like kuwabara.he is got a good character and is oftem underrated only because he is not as strong as his friends.i also don't like what togashi did with his role in the story in later episodes.i wish he had given him a more significant role.moreless
