Mass panic! And heartbreak. And shockers!

This episode continues wrapping up loose ends (including a return from beyond the grave!) and leaves the remaining audience members and fighters run for their lives. Sakyo is good on his word and reveals a little more both about his backstory and the up-coming saga.

The episode manages to be both light-hearted and heart-breaking, which is why it's one of my favorites.
  • The battle is over....but danger is still present.

    8.0
Yusuke breaks down about Kuwabara's death, crying about how he had power but couldn't access it because of his emotions. Then suddenly Kuwabara springs up and reveals that his death was just an act from which Yusuke could draw strength. Koenma, Kurama and Heie all knew. It turns out Toguro never really wanted to kill Kuwabara he just wanted to face Yusuke at his full power so that he could be defeated by a worthy adversary and go down in battle as is every fighter's wish. Sakyo decides to kill himself, even though Koenma tells him the deal is off, by imploding the building. With the push of a button, a 15 minute timer is activated and the building begins to crumble. Everyone starts to evacuate but Koenma and $hizuru go after Sakyo. Koenma tries to understand why and $hizuru is just confused. Sakyo tells them that this was his ultimate bet, all or nothing and he lost, and all of his work would die with him. He gave $hizuru his lighter. The rest of the Team went to get the girls. Heie was there first and saved Yukina from some falling rocks. The passage was blocked but Chu, Renku, Toya and Gin blew a hole in it and everyone escaped. The Team will never get their wishes but even if the committee were still alive, they could not grant the wish they all wanted, Genkai to be alive. "It's done, we finished it Genkai" proclams Yusuke.moreless
  • Comic relief time.

    8.0
Yusuke starts crying for not being smart enough to unlock his true potential. But then Kuwabara starts dancing around with plenty of energy. He explains Toguro missed his vital spots on purpose. Sakyo then keeps his end of the bargain even after Koenma calls off the deal. Sakyo initiates the self detonation button, which will not only destroy the arena, but his progress with the Demon world tunnel. Shizuru is sad to see him go, and even cries over him. Everyone panics to get out. Some old faces that Yusuke and his crew fought before help everyone escape. Finally, the Dark Tournament's over, and while Team Urameshi is the victor, Yusuke mourns at how the Tournament committee won't be able to fullfill his wish.

This episode is purposely used for comic relief after all the depressing and emotional moments that had happened earlier. A dose of comedy was thrown in here with everyone making fun of Yusuke crying over a still living Kuwabara. Even though it's the aftermatch episode of the final battle, there was still some magic left. Sakyo's character was intriguing all the way to the end, making him very likeable and mysterious. Plus it doesn't all in end flowers and happiness.moreless

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (4)

    • Goof: When this episode aired on Toonami, someone in the audience said "What the hell are we standing around here for?!", this is one of the few times such language isn't cut out in the edited version.

    • Goof: In the edited version, where Juri says she's never even kissed a boy, the subtitles show what was said in the uncut version, that she doesn't want to die a virgin.

    • In this episode, Kuwabara is lying on his stomach in his faked death, but in the previous episode, he was on his back.

    • When the timer reached at 8:01, the next second went to 7:00 instead of 8:00.

  • QUOTES (4)

    • Kuwabara: Okay, I think you've done enough groveling for the day, though it is really entertaining. Reporting for duty: Captain Faker, that's me!
Yusuke: Hey, why's the dead guy walkin' around?
Kurama: Yes, well, I tried to inform you, but you were too engrossed in your speech.
      Yusuke: The heart, the finger-poking!

    • Hiei: (to Kuwabara) Your stubborness is even greater than your stupidity.
Kuwabara: That sure is a nasty way to give a compliment!

    • Yusuke: (while beating up Kuwabara) We're in front of about a million people, including Kayko and my boss and hardcore demon fighters! And you make me say all that sissy crap!

    • Juri: Stop the broadcast Koto, I wanna go home!
Koto: Never! In all my years as announcer, I've sat through a lot more danger than a collapsing stadium, I'll finish this broadcast, it's my duty!
(a large boulder lands near Juri and Koto)
Juri: (screams) No! I don't wanna die as a virgin!
Koto: Oh people! Juri's just revealed a shocker that I never would've guessed, with her popular stint at the committee cocktail lounge. Well, as dutiful as I am to the awards, I think this cause is a little more noble. Let's find you a man!
