Finally, the boys are done powering up and testing each other out. Finally they pit everything they have against each other and the winner can emerge.

Yusuke's grown so much through this saga, all of it coming to head in the end of the Dark Tournament. He's not the cock kid Genkai was worried about. He's not the ne'er-do-well worser punk of Sariyashiki Junior High. He's a champion young man who's seen something harsh. And he'll never be the same again.

Great characterization, great conclusion (if a bit anti-climactic here), satisfying end to most of the storylines.moreless
  • This is an excellent episode, just be sure to watch the Japanese version with English subtitles.

I really enjoyed this episode of Yu Yu Hakusho. I am reviewing this episode based on the original Japanese version and not the Englsih dub. The English dub is crap. DO your self a favor and never watch it. Of course, if you grew up watching the English dub then I know how special it may be to you, that is how the English 4kids dub of One Piece is for me. Anyway, This episode was the ending to Yusuke and Toguru's tournament match. It was brutal. Their was a range of emotions, violence, and super awesome visuals. A very impressive episode.moreless
  • Yusuke's powers are revealed!

    10
This episode, in combination with the last one, must be one of the best episodes for Yusuke during the Dark Tournament arc. It clearly shows his devotion to his friends as the fight with Toguro reaches its climax. Enraged by Kuwabara's apparent death, Yusuke's true power, for this arc, is released in a most calmed or tamed manner, which is part of the reason of why this show is so awesome considering in most other shows it would've been a swirling vortex or explosion of energy. And Yusuke's behavior, partly combined with the initial slow motion used, was also very unlike his usual rash habits and showed a lot more control, pivotal for his character growth. And don't get me started on the final attack. What a "shocker." I knew Yusuke was going to win, as there was obviously more episodes after this one, but initially having Toguro standing while Yusuke laying on the ground must have been a real shocker when people first viewed this episode. And then when Toguro's demon form cracks and reveals his human form seemed well done and appropriate. It shows that he most likely wanted to die as a human and regretted his past choices. All in all, a great way to end this fight.moreless
  • The epic last battle against Toguro comes to an end.

    10
Yusuke's energy fills the arena appearing to battle Toguro. As he walks towards Toguro past memories of Kuwabara flow through his mind. He will never forgive Toguro and now he can never forgive himself for what he allowed to be done to his friend. Toguro continues telling Yusuke about how strength and caring for yourself are all that matter and to throw away your friends. Yusuke tells Toguro that he once respected him for his power, but now he realizes what it means to be human and ro care about the people around him, something Toguro threw away.

Yusuke then launches a punch / Spirit Gun attack that breaks Toguro's neck but he simply fixes it. Yusuke tells him that his next attack will be eveything he has and Toguro decides to go 100%. He reveals that even before was only at about 85%, but Yusuke's request for one final attack by both has pushed Toguro to his full power. Yusuke powers up his final Spirit Gun telling himself he's doing it for his friends and to put all the power he has into this last shot. Toguro seems to block it at first but even with two hands the blast slowly pushes him back.

Yusuke runs out of energy and falls to his knees, joining all waiting to see if his shot will be enough. Toguro's body starts busting in random places with blood spilling everywhere squeezes the ball of energy and it vaporizes. Yusuke falls to the ground. Toguro begins walking towards him. He tells himself that he's happy and thanks Yusuke for finally being able to use his full power. Then his powered up demon body cracks and blows off of him and he falls to the ground, what's left of his human body shredded. As Jury looks on unsure of what to do, smiles fill the crowd and his friends as Yusuke takes to his feet as his team is announced the tournament champion.moreless
  • After the death of his best friend, yusuke upgrades to full power, ready to settle the score with toguro.

As the final battle of the final round of the dark tournament continues, genkai reveals to toguro that if he kills kuwabara, yusuke's full power will be realized. After the death of kuwabara, yusuke powers up, ready to face toguro, and defeat him once and for all. After yusuke punches toguro, he gets up unscaved, and was actually hiding some of his power. After that, both warriors prepare for one final blow, yusuke releases his spirit gun at toguro. Toguro fails to deflect the spirit gun, and is finally defeated. At Long last,Yusuke has become the winner of the dark tournament.moreless

    • The preview to the next episode contains a spoiler on what happens to Kuwabara. The Funimation dub goes even further and tells the viewer they'll see it in 3, 2, 1 counts.

    • In the English version, Toguro mentions that the form he is about to transform into is 100% of his power, but in the Japanese version it is actually 120%.

  • QUOTES (3)

    • Yusuke: Damn, you're stupid. You didn't throw it away, you just ran away from it like a frightened little child. I won't run, and I won't let go. I'm doing just what you said, Genkai, I'm caring about you jerks all the way. I don't care if I never fire a blast again, I don't care if I die. The only thing I want to do now is make this shot with all the power I have.

    • Toguro: I killed Genkai, but one remained. And now that surviving piece can at last be put to rest. Thank you again, Yusuke Urameshi.

    • Yusuke: Today you die, Toguro.
