    The final fight gets underway and both fighters start by testing each others' powers. With the formalities out of the way, it's time to get into the real battle.



    Not much plot-wise or character-wise, just Yusuke and Toguro flexing their muscles (and their egos) and showing off. We know what they're capable of, but apparently need a refresher. Surely, both have aces up their sleeves, right?



    Something that bothered me was how Yusuke was stylized red and Toguro stylized blue. In the series, energies are assigned colors (blue=Spirit, red=demon), so it would make sense that these would be switched... but I suppose that's clever foreshadowing for the rewatchers to pick up on.moreless

    Chu, Renku, Gin and Toya arrive at the arena just before the final match starts. Toguro immediately powers up to 80%. The aura his body emanates around the stadium instantly vaporizes lesser demons. Koenma and Pu put up energy shields to protect Team Yurameshi and the girls. Yusuke tells himself that to him it's weird but he isn't scared at all and charges Toguro. Into the fight it is clear to Kurama that Yusuke fighting method has improved. He is dodging all of Toguro's attacks but his punches are having no effect. The four demons look on trying to size up the match. Yusuke powers up his Spirit Gun but doesn't attack and quickly rushes Toguro. He only has four shots and can't waste any from that distance. Later Toguro puts more energy into a punch and destroys the ring sending Yusuke and all the rock into the air. Yusuke jumps around hiding. He positions himself on target and fires a massive Spirit Gun, landing a direct hit. Toguro is shot out of the stadium and through the forest until he hits a giant rock. Everyone but Yusuke is convinved Toguro's gone. But a few minutes later he shows up, voices his dissapointment in Genkai's power & tells Yusuke that he won't need to go to full power in order to defeat him.moreless

    With no annoying brothers around, Yusuke and Toguro can finally begin their grudge match. Yusuke delivers a couple of jabs and punchs, but Toguro delivers the same amount. Yusuke though is doing an impressive job of dodging most of his opponent's direct hits, counter attacking off those. Though one of his supreme attacks destroys the entire stadium he put effort into carrying over. Through the distraction, Yusuke was successful in firing one of four available shots from his Spirit Gun. Toguro never bothered to block it, and let it consume him as the bullet shot pierced through the stadium, similar to Heia's darkness flame when fighting Bui. However, Toguro walks back to the stadium unharmed glassless.



    I'm still rather disappointed that the fights aren't as fluid as when Genkai fought that blue haired guy. Everything seems rather slow. But this episode was all right; I just expected more from an opener episode to a finale fight.moreless
