    Now there's a plot twist.

We've got Toguro stealing souls, Genkai possessing Puu and another death. I think the most surprising here was Genkai returning. Puu looked rather ridiculous with his old woman face, and it was great having the little blue pudge ball smack Yusuke around.

And of course, Kuwabara taking his stand and meeting his end with dignity. Sometimes you just need that extra push from your friends to reach that extra bit of strength you had lying around. Makes for awesome FURTHER power-ups. To the finale!moreless
  • It takes the death of a close friend for Yusuke to finally let go and get serious.

    9.0
Toguro continues trying to bring out Yusuke's hidden powers. He starts sucking in the souls of the audience to keep his body at 100% and says that in 20 minutes everyone will be dead. Sakyo raises a wall to keep the weaker demons from fleeing. Yusuke continues to launch attack after attack but nothing phases Toguro in the slightest. Kekko goes into a state of disbelief and reminisces' about what their life used to be life through school and back to when they were really little when Kekko confronted Yusuke and offered her friendship. Toguro threatens to kill Kekko and fires a blast that barely misses Puu's shield. This sends Yusuke into a rage but it still isn't enough. Genkai possesses Puu and flys down to the battle and tells Yusuke that he must stop Toguro or everyone will die. She then tells Toguro to kill one of his friends and that will bring out his true power and that's better than everyone dying. Toguro walks over to Kuwabara as Team Yurameshi prepares to fight him but Kuwabara charges Toguro and gets his chest ripped out. The sacrifice works however as Yusuke seems to teleport past Toguro and a strange aura surrounds him.moreless

  • It was cool

    9.1
This episode was kind of a shock to me but then again with other things that have happen earlier it's not that big of a suprise. This is a pretty decent episode in my opinion.

It kept curious most of the way through. It also was one of the better episodes of the dark tournament. It's was cool what happened with Puu and Kuwabara. I give it a high rating review. Although some may not agree it was a really cool episode and the story is pretty good. I also enjoyed seeing the flashbacks and seeing how they were when they were younger.moreless
  • Poor Kuwabara.

    8.3
Toguro seems almost unbeatable with his 100% armour. Yusuke is rendered harmless to him, easily brushing him off with one swipe or slap. He starts vacuuming up the souls within the arena to support his armour, as well as infuriate Yusuke a little bit. Genkai then possessed Puu, and suggested an idea to Toguro that will push Yusuke to his max. Toguro looks around to see who should die. Out of the four between Kuwabara, Heia, Kurama and Koenma, he chooses Kuwabara. They all planned on attacking him, but Kuwabara decided to go at him alone. However, he stood absolutely no chance as Toguro pierced his chest area.

This was an emotional episode, though nothing to cry over. Yusuke who tries so hard to push Toguro back away from his friends seemed like a futile attempt even though it meant a lot. Then Kuwabara accepting the terms, allowing himself to pull the hidden strength out of Yusuke.

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (3)

    • Kuwabara: "A mulberry's a tree, Kuwabara's a man." For someone with no knowledge of the Japanese language, this makes absolutely no sense. The line is a more-or-less accurate translation of the original, which is a sort of pun. From Japanese to English, "kuwabara" translates to "mulberry."

    • In this episode, Kuwabara says "Make my death count, okay?", but at the start of the next episode, as well as in the flashback in the episode Out with a Bang, he says "Make my death count, Yusuke...". In the Chapter Black saga, the flashbacks are correct.

    • In the part where Hiei and Kurama are reacting to the fact that Kuwabara won't let them defend him, Kurama's eyes are red instead of the usual green.

  • QUOTES (5)

    • Yusuke: (to Genkai-Puu) No! You're nothing but a stupid little hypocrite. You told me to commit to something all the way and I chose my friends! Now you say that killing one as motivation is okay?!

    • Juri: So stupid, why did I run away to be an announcer? I should've stayed home and raised apples!

    • Keiko: (thinking while watching Yusuke being beaten) Yusuke, we're not really here, are we? We're in school like we were, and you get me in trouble all the time. You play stupid pranks on me and I wish you'd grow up... At nighttime I worry about where you are, and in the mornings I drag you to school. Every day someone asks me why I hang around with you and I don't answer. But even though you don't realize it, you're the only one in the world who bothers to see me as I really am. We're safe with each other. We're not hundreds of miles from home, and you're not fighting for your life. When we're together it's our own little world and nothing gets inside. (speaking out loud) This tournament full of demons isn't real. (starts crying) It's all a bad dream... Oh Yusuke, just wake up. I wanna go home... Yusuke!

    • Shizuru: (about Toguro) That muscle man is having his way. I'm not sure if Yusuke can stop him.

    • Kuwabara: A mulberry's a tree, Kuwabara's a man, and I'll prove it. We all have to go when our time comes, but if we do our duty we don't got regrets, so taste a little piece of my sword, Toguro!
