This is a good show. Why? By making it an anthology, characters don't get into a "rut." Take Bonanza, which ran 14 seasons. Is it really plausible that there would be a serious tragedy/death etc., virtually every week at any given location (The Ponderosa). C'mon!

As an aside, this show includes most of the original stories of the late Mr Zane Grey, along with non-canonical pastiche's in tribute to his style. They are tales of pioneers and other early Americans set all throughout the West (and even as "east" as Louisiana) over several decades of the 19th-c.

Dick Powell's hosting and comic skills are formidable.

Lots of great legendary actors appear on this show. Keep an eye out for: Ernest Borgnine, James Coburn, Jack Lemmon, Claude Akins, David Niven, Burt Reynolds among others.moreless
