Sgt. Mendoza, an orphan, unexpectedly becomes heir to a local hacienda and its surrounding land with the death of a distant cousin. Mendoza is excited at being suddenly lifted to the rank of "caballero", but he is dismayed to find that his new home comes equipped with the ghost of the original builder of the hacienda.
