Originally created by cartoonist Matt Groening, "Our Favorite Family," has graced the small screen in one form or another for over 20 years. The Simpson family first appeared on television as the subjects of interstitial "shorts" on The Tracey Ullman Show in April of 1987. The Simpsons remained a staple on The Tracey Ullman Show for three seasons until they premiered in their own half-hour series, on December 17, 1989. With the help of Jim Brooks and Sam Simon, Matt Groening's cartoon family turned into an instant success.

Set in Springfield, the average American town, the show focuses on the antics and everyday adventures of the Simpson family; Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, as well as a virtual cast of thousands. Since the beginning, the series has been a pop culture icon, attracting hundreds of celebrities to guest star. The show has also made name for itself in its fearless satirical take on politics, media and American life in general.

Currently in its 20th season, The Simpsons has piled up over 400 episodes, over 20 Emmy Awards, a handful of music albums, countless endorsements and merchandise, and even made the jump to the silver screen in the summer of 2007 with The Simpsons Movie.   We all know that The Simpsons isn't quite what it used to be in the 90s, but why? Is is because they changed writers? They started running out of ideas? Or what? 1. Mike Scully- His involvement in the show started a steep decline. Before this, the show had more emotion and felt more heartfelt. After, it became far more cartoony and zany. It lost something in the process though. 2. Family Guy- I hate to point fingers here, but Family Guy premiered around the time The Simpsons started to decline as well. It brought a different kind of humor, more of a "sick" and gross" type. The Simpsons tried to compete and in the end, this caused them to lose something too. Viewers that might have once been Simpsons fans turned to Family Guy for their gross out humor. 3. History changes- Episodes like That 90's Show really just prove to confuse viewes. They changed history that had already been stated in previous (much much much better) episodes. It makes no sense. Bart originally would have been born around 1979. Now he was born in 1999. I understand they are trying to keep with the times, but it might have been better if they never mentioned the year at all. 4. On a smaller note, the fact that the Treehouse of Horror episodes have aired after Halloween since 2000 hasn't exactly been a plus. Anything anyone else would like to add? less «

  like from season 16 and on. like I hear and read on diferent forums ideas of how the how could improve but really the way things are now I sadly feel that I don't care nor do I have any sympathy for the characters during recent seasons. I do care though about everything (characters and story-lines) during seasons 1-8, while we know season 9 was the first to treat characters like dirt(Skinner not really being Skinner). but now I care so little for the show that they could even make Ozmodiar a regular cast member and it wouldn't bother me at all. Im intrested to see how other fans care about the show ''now''. what could they do that wouldn't even bother you. less «

  A 20 years-run great show hide « show »

  In 1989, Simpsons creator Matt Groenning, released the first episode of the "Simpsons". Since then, 20 years and 20 seasons have been among tele vision. Is a great series with great stories and characters. Matt Groenning has said he based the characters in his family members: His mom Marge, his father Homer, his sister Lisa, his sister Maggie and himself to be Bart. TThe series is a great show, and is really funny to see how it has passed 20 years and the characters havent aged one single day, and not to say that everything happens in the same year because there are many Halloween and Christmas specials. But anyway, this makes the show even funnier.

  The Simpsons is a hillarious show! It is about a family of 4,(With their dog and cat)with a different story every episode.(With the execption of clip episodes)The family includes: A fat, lazy, carefree idiot named Homer, his wife, a hardworking, tall blue haired women named Marge, a troublemaking, spikey haired boy named Bart, a smart, non-troublemaking, girl named Lisa, and a pacifier sucking baby named Maggie. They life in the town of Springfield. Alot of their episodes are very funny! The best seasons are probably seasons 1-12. It got kinda downhill from then, but it still is pretty funny. It's been going on for over 20 years now. I personally like the violent cartoon show Bart and Lisa watch, called Itchy and Scratchy. GRAPHIC cartoon! And the characters are hillarious too! I especially like Homer, Snake the criminal, Krusty the Clown, Bart, and Ralph Wiggum. It might go on for a couple more seasons, but that depends on how well it goes I guess. But the show has been funny for over 20 years!

  the simpsons is without a doub my favorite animated show of all time. it's one of my favorite show's of all tiime. but recently it has been lacking what i love about this show. it's strong story line. it's witty funny lines. not being anything like family guys. but now it's lacking all those things. when i heard they got renewed for two more season i thought well that's great. they really desirve it. but im afraid they won't get any better. which i don't know why they would get better. it wouldn't make sense for it to get better now. but i all way's have the dvd's to watch the good old day's of this 20th-21st century family.

  This show was the best but Family Guy passed it because The Simpsons went down-hill. hide « show »

  The Simpsons is a show about the Simpsons family. Animation- When I first saw it I thought it was a little strange that they were yellow but now it would be weird to see them a different color. Humor- The jokes used to be funny.
  
  Characters- The usual a dumb father,a prank pulling child,a good child,a house mom,and a baby. But this actually beat many shows their and was one of the first to use those characters. The only thing that brought the rating down was the fact that it went down-hill. It's not as good as it was in the 90's. They use terrible plots,they repeat jokes or use jokes that aren't funny. I think this show is worth a view,minus the new seasons.

  enjoyable, funny and sweet, very good hide « show »

  bart befriends nelson when noone turns up to his birthday, mqainly becasue of bart in the first place did i just travel back in time 15 years? alot of the new simpsons isnt up to the classic seasons of 5,6,7,8 etc.. but this felt more like the simpsons of the old than ive seen for a long time, sweet funny story, character development, and grey stash!!
  
  the simpsons has been going for 20 plus years now and still comes out with classics, where as a more popluar show family guy is boring now after 6 season,
