Luthercorp's Level 3 has produced another threat - mutant plants that drastically change the personalities of all those affected. hide show

Interesting cars in this episode - Chloe drives an early 60's (63?) Ford Falcon four-door, a rare piece of auto history, while Lex motors around in a gray Porsche 911 cabriolet. Lana and others are affected by a mutant flower from the Luthor fertilizer plant's Level 3, leading to all sorts of carnal behavior. Ms. Kreuk gets a body double filling in for her in a school pool seduction scene, which Clark likes initially but is rescued from in spite of himself. Quotes: Lana - "Like it?" (Her new, uninhibited look). Clark: "I think the operative word is 'Gulp.' " The flower-power theme doesn't make much of a protaganist, but the cast does well with their lines. The product placement by Apple Computer continues. Rerun rating C.

Pretty flower, disastrous consequences. hide show

This is the first of the many episodes that features some of the characters losing all their inhibitions and going all different types of crazy. Lana is amazing in this episode and she was looking hot in the pool scene with Clark. She does evil well and it was nice to see her break out of her doting girlfriend role. Mr. Kent is also infected and he becomes quite violent towards Lex who at this time are trying to help out. Pete is also a great change as he shows his jealousy over Lex and Clark. I love how oblivious Chloe is over the whole series of the fact that Pete likes her which is pretty obvious in this episode. The meteor man scientist is also a nice addition to this episode because he is always quite creepy. This is one of the series best episodes and was a highlight of the excellent first season.

    Flower Power hide show

Nicodemus-A flower that comes from a reopened "Level Three" of the fertilizer plant brings strange reactions from several people, including Jonathan, Lana, and Pete.

"A flower that makes people crazy" sounds like a rather dumb plot on paper, but it's actually makes for an interesting series of events in "Nicodemus". It's nice to see some of our regulars get to act out of character for once and it seems most of them were having fun doing so, especially John Schiender and Kristin Kreuk. Jonathan's infection is darkest of the chnages. Jonathan is very aggressive even cold-hearted throughout. The scene where he verbally lashes out at Lex about how much he hates the Luthors and wouldn't shed a tear if they all died. The most disturbing part is when Jonathan shoots Clark with a shotgun by mistake.

When Lana gets infected, this part of the storyline is played more for laughs. Lana is now a sexed up bad girl who breaks up with Whitney and tries to seduce Clark. Even though this part os the story is pretty uneventful, the pool scene with Lana doing a striptease for Clark is very entertaining and you could tell Kristin was enjoying playing this side of Lana. Lastly, Pete gets infected and sets out to get Lex out of jealousy. Sam Jones III takes this time to actually show more of his acting ability (though quite limited!) But it's nice that we get to see some insight on how Pete feels and it was obvious he would be jealous of Clark's friendship to Lex. I also loved Dr. Hamilton's invovlment in the story and the scenes between him and Lex were well acted. "Nicodemus" isn't the most story driven episode, but it's immensely entertaing and has some great development for some characters.

    Great Episode hide show

Dr. Hamilton uses the meteor rocks to resurrect a toxic flower, Nicodemus, which has been extinct for 100 years. The flower causes whoever it sprays to lose all inhibitions. Jonathan, Lana and Pete are all infected with the flower's toxins, and begin to act out of character. Clark manages to prevent them all from harming themselves or someone else. After awhile, the flower's toxins cause the victim to fall into a coma and eventually die. Lex, unhappy that Dr. Hamilton has spent his time resurrecting dangerous flowers, dispatches a team of specialists to create a cure for the poisoning. The cure is created in time to save Jonathan, Lana and Pete.

Lana breaking rules, Clark drooling, Pete going homicidal....what more could we ask for? hide show

I really enjoyed this episode. An extinct plant is brought back using meteor rock and poisons people, changing their personalities and saying what they really think. I think this is the only episode i actually enjoyed watching Lana, she actually grew a backbone, broke some rules and said how she felt about Clark, which is great because i was getting annoyed with them tip-toeing around it!! I also found the expression on Clarks face amusing when she was undressing, great acting. Got to say the Mr and Mrs Kent scenes were disturbing :) Clark hitting Lex towards the end of the episode so that Pete wouldn't kill him was great too, as this is the first time we see some proper physical violence between them. Thumbs up!!

  • Clark falls into the pool, and Lana hears a door open in the distance, and in the next shot, Clark surfaces and there is the principal. How long was he under water after simply falling in? []
  • At 12:30 we see Chloe and Lana at the scene of the accident, late at night, to find out what caused their symptoms. Chloe walks around and you hear the sound effects of her camera going off but there are no flashes, and she doesn't appear to be taking pictures, until she hears something in the woods and she points the camera, with the same sound, and the flash goes off. More Notes
  • Lana: I just wish I could remember what happened. Sounds like I got a little out of control there.
Clark: You spoke your mind and you did what you wanted. Kind of an alpha Lana.

Clark: I kinda liked it. []
  • Clark: Ever since Whitney's father's been in the hospital, there's been a no-fly zone on Lana.
