Please direct all general speculation on Season 8 here as well as spoilers, news, and discussion containing spoilers. Specific discussion about how they'll resolve the cliffhangers of Season 7 should go to that episode's thread.

Isn't is the other way around, discussing season 8 and resolving issues from 7.
Anyway let there be doomsday, *sighs*

I think Maxima might be the female villain, with her they could easily go for that soap opera like storyline.

Ok. New Season 8 thread.

I'm gonna try something. I'm going to make this post about my initial feelings and thoughts and next year when It ends I'm gonna look at this post and see what's what.

Things that I'm liking.
- Clark and Lana's relationship is dead. Finally.
- After four years of waiting some decent Clark and Lois interaction could be in the works.

Things than I'm not liking.
- Lex. Gone.
- Chloe staying. Not that I dislike Chloe but I very much think she's being used far too much. I thinks Chloe is starting to be bad for the show.
- Doomsday introduction and the plans of how he'll be handled in Smallville

Clark - (Yes, he get's his own section) Mostly these are predictions
-
At the end of Season 7. He is still a useless moron. I have very little hope that he's going to be anything but that thanks to him going to Chloe every episode cause he has no **** ing clue about what he's doing and him whining about Lana.
- He still won't be flying. I'm now so sick of waiting for this that even a tiny tid bit of him flying won't be satisfactory. If he actually does a full flight I will have a heart attack.
- Even though I think Clark can't sink any lower but you would think that the only place to go is up, right. WRONG! Season 7 killed this version of Clark Kent. I was never going to accept him as Superman if it ever happened but after the finale I think he's become a disgrace. If there is indeed some redemption for Clark Kent I will be happy but I must admit some in the writing staff will have there work cut out for them.

I know it sounds like I'm hating on Smallville but I'm not. I'm frustrated by it but I will always enjoy it and I'm sure I'll enjoy season 8 but the decisions made are starting to make thier effects known.

Spoilers For Smallville Season 8!

UPDATED 5/15/08: It is likely that Lex will simply be "missing" as the new season begins. In his place the new character "Tess" will be looking over his assets. Producers hope to get Michael Rosenbaum back for guest shots; whether or not they will be successful at getting him remains to be seen.
- If Laura Vandervoort does not return as a series regular, it is likely that Kara will remain in the Phantom Zone until she can be rescued.
- Phil Morris may be returning as the Martian Manhunter in Season 8, and James Marsters has expressed interest in more appearances as Brainiac.

- TV Guide is reporting that, since his new pilot Austin Golden Hour did not go to series, Justin Hartley could be returning in Season 8 as Green Arrow.

UPDATED 5/14/08: TV Guide is now reporting that Allison Mack will indeed be back next year for all 22 episodes of the season.

Tom Welling, Aaron Ashmore, and Erica Durance are all returning for Season 8, and Kristin Kreuk will be back for at least a few episodes, but not all of them.

Laura Vandervoort, who was at one time considered a "lock" for next season, is conspicuously not on the Season 8 cast list...

UPDATED 5/8/08: Details on the new characters for Season 8!

UPDATED 5/1/08: Michael Rosenbaum will not be returning as a series regular for Season 8.

Two new characters have been announced for Season 8:

Doomsday: In season eight, Clark will face his ultimate challenge with the appearance of the legendary, unstoppable destroyer Doomsday, who appears on "Smallville" for the first time. As comic book fans know, Doomsday is notorious for being the only character in the DC Comics universe to have killed Superman.

Female villain: Doomsday won't be Clark's only nemesis in the upcoming season. The executive producers are tight-lipped about a new female villain they will be introducing, but they can say she will be familiar to many fans and will set her sights on Clark in ways Lex never could. Intelligent, brilliantly manipulative, and dangerously sinister, our gorgeous new villain has one more weapon in her arsenal: Her mutual attraction with Clark may prove to be as deadly as kryptonite for him.

Man I am very curious to see how the next season will turn out to be. Lionel and Lex were my fav. characters on the show and now they are gone...should be either interesting to see Smallville without those two characters or maybe totally boring...we'll see.

Except for the super strength part it could be Mercy from TAS.

I'm not too big on the upcoming season. Introducing Doomsday is a mistake of epic proportions, and Smallville's had some bad ones in the past!

I agree with you there. I mean they have Clark meeting just about everyone in his young years.

That would be interesting, and I guess it's a good thing it's not Maxima could I see the writers really milking the drama outta that. But it seems like they're gunna do it anyways.

I think they will have a season 8, but how GOOD it is going to be with some more characters missing is anyones guess. I also think it will not be long until the series is cancelled altogether.

Don't get me wrong, I do not WANT that to happen, but I also am strongly opposed to idiots that say it should keep going forever. I think just having a season 8 is going to be difficult to write for, if some of the main characters are missing. Also, I do NOT want to see smallville just fade away like a lot of other TV series have in the past because people lost intrest and they dropped in the ratings!

In other words, I would rather see smallville go out like MASH did and still be on top, than to fade away, because the ratings got so bad and the show was cancelled. I sure any smallville fan would agree with me on that one.

It would be nice if the series lasted even 10 seasons, but I think that the days of TV series lasting 20 years like Gunsmoke are pretty much over! In the first place, there is a lot more things that are competing for peoples entertainment time, such as the net, cell phones, even computer or console gaming and the like. In the second place, contracts for actors are not like they used to be. Actors have a lot more options to walk away from a series in their contracts today, than years ago.

And Tom Welling COULD leave the series if has a mind to, because his contract is up after seaon 8. So I guess weather or not there will even be a season 9 (let alone 10) would depend on how well smallville does in season 8 with some main characters missing. It will also depend on if Welling wants to keep going after season 8! What would be the point of having a show called Smallville without clark kent? None that I colud see.

I am not saying it will not do well. But the cards are not stacked in it's favor with all the changes being made.

Time will tell.

Here are two ideas that would force Clark to evolve through season 8. What do you think?

1. Clark moves to the edge of his destiny. He finally takes steps to serve humanity and become an active hero. He actively seeks out wrongs to right, crimes to thwart. (Perhaps he does so in conjunction with the nascent Justice League. Perhaps he often climbs to the top of the silo and uses super hearing to detect cries for help--much as he flies above the Earth and employs his super hearing in Superman Returns.) But he remains in Smallville and doesn't yet don a costume. To preserve his secret identity he uses superspeed, the cover of darkness, perhaps even disguises. Doomsday and the mystery female villain make him firmly realize there are numerous other dark forces in the world beside Lex.

2. At season's end, Chloe sacrifices her life to save Clark. This inspires Clark to become a full-fledged superhero, don costume and move to Metropolis, where he can monitor worldwide events.

I would just like to say that there is going to be a season 8. And yea I think we all wanted Smallville to go out with a bang, perhaps there is still hope.

Sounds good to me, I hope the writers can pull something like this off though.
