The Best Cop Show On Television In Ten Years! hide show
I love this show, I can't figure out what's wrong with NBC, why would they have dropped A WINNER! Thank God, for TNT for picking it up. I was so bummed out, when it got cancelled by NBC,because it's such a great show, Southland, KICKS ASS!! I definitely agree with the critics, it is gritty, riveting and totally different from anything out there, on television. TNT, don't drop the ball on this one, this one's a keeper, it's like Southland was made for TNT, their type of programming, not NBC's type at all, NBC, doesn't have the balls for it.
Been there and it was better the first time around. hide show
For any fan of Third Watch, this show is oddly familiar. Oddly because it's been done before but far better. Alot of the dialog and situations are so like those of TW, it's uncomfortable to watch because the writing and acting is so inferior. I always liked Regina King and Shawn Hatosy, but they're both wasted here, suffocated by contrived characterizations. If they wanted to resurrect a great show like TW, they should've just done so, outright. This pale imitation is offputting at best. TW had so much heart coupled with guts and strength. Here we have a bunch of whiney boring folks all so bored with life who happen to be cops. They uncreatively separate the liberals from the conservatives by the most common, sophomoric demoninator. They beat the viewer in the face with the nasty antics and slurs of the bigoted conservative view, which only comes off as childish. And then they use the liberal "bleeding heart" viewpoint to try to tug at the viewer's heartstrings, but without any substance the ploy just doesn't deliver. I guess one must have the ability to think for themselves to see through the ultra-thin veneer of this snoozer.
I gave it a 4.5 because it's not as bad as most quasi-reality tv but not much better.
Why did NBC drop this again? hide show
Great concept for a show, the episodes feel cinematic- and do an impressive job of introducing a ton of characters, developing them, giving a glimpse into their personal lives, but keeping the focus on the crimes being investigated. It doesn't feel overly polished like a lot of cop shows currently on the air- in fact, it kind of reminds me of Homicide or NYPD Blue- and that gives me a feeling of nostalgia. Even though the cases are tragic, it doesn't degenerate into a bunch of melodrama and overpowering background music, glad TNT is giving it a full run, Southland definitely has a lot of potential.
Southland is one of the best shows on television!! hide show
Southland is not like other cop shows, it is raw and I like how they depict the crime life in LA. This show also deals with real problems like Officer John Coopers (Michael Cudlitz) hidden drug addiction and Officer Ben Shermans (Ben McKenzie) issues with his family. Overall, the show is well acted and has great storylines that make you want to come back every week to see more. I like the realistic felling that this show gives you. I watched this show for the first time when it premiered on NBC and was saddened when it was cancelled. Im glad TNT is giving it another chance and I hope it is on for many years to come.
Southland Is just quite possibily the best drama ever on TV. Great actors and plot lines. Shows LAPD in the most true terms. hide show
Southland is such a great show. NBC blew it with me. They always cancel all of their best shows. I have emailed TNT and asked them to please pick up this wonderful show. There are several sites that have petitions to help save Southland. you can do a search for save Southland show. Please sign this petition. Please help save Southland. Southland is the best cop show that has ever been on TV. We the viewers are fed up with the decisions of the networks. All of the best shows are canceled before their time. Pushing Daisies comes to mind for one.
Please do not let Southlad suffer the same fate.
