Episode Summary

After a freak jousting accident at a Medieval Times restaurant, SpongeBob and Patrick are transported to a medieval version of Bikini Bottom. The two are mistaken for great knights, and soon they are entrusted with the quest of saving King Krabs' daughter, Princess Pearl, from the clutches of the evil wizard Lord Planktonamor. To keep them company, the King sends along Squidly, the court jester (who was recently thrown in the dungeon for not being funny).

It just wasn't all that good... hide show

Okay, so first of all, the plot was weird to begin with, and then they made it even weirder by throwing in Squidly at the end. That was a very strange and unfunny joke, in my opinion. That said, Squidly shone in the rest of this episode. I liked his song to the king, and him putting a curse on what would eventually be Squidward. Anyway, this episode was just kind of bland and strange at the same time. What the heck is up with Medieval Sandy? It doesn't even make sense that she's there, because Sandy just moved from Texas in Tea At The Treedome. So why in the world would she have medieval relatives under the sea? Also, there was Pearl crying and blubbering on, which I hate, and the episode just didn't have that many good jokes.

    8.5 Great

Another great Spongebob special! hide show

This has to be one of the best episodes EVER! It has some very hysterical scenes and lines. I love when they are jousting on seahorses. Then thay get knocked off their horses, and fall into Medevil Bikini Bottom. They soon meet Squidly, who cured his great-great-great-great-great grandson, Squidward. Sponge and Pat soon have to rescue princess Pearl. The first half is pretty boring, but the second half makes up for that. Including a very funny karate scene with Spongebob and Sandy Cheeks(The black knight) I highly reccemond this episode to all Spongebob fans. And remember this quote: Spongebob: We can't fight the dragon with only our bare hands" Patrick: Yeah, we need some gloves. Haa!

One of their most clever episodes hide show

Fans who hated this episode probably hated the "back in time" aspect. As for me, this is one of their funniest, and most clever episodes. It's kind of wasted though because the whole thing was a dream, but what better explanation could they have come up with?

Characterization was good, Squidley had some hilarious lines, and almost all his songs got a good laugh out of me.

The plot wasn't the most original thing, but it was quite well done.

The end was too abrupt for my taste, too random, but otherwise this is one of their best episodes of the whole series

    ... hide show

This was a terrible episode! Just plain awful! There were no funny parts. Everyone had an awful part, except for Squidley. Squidley was the only funny person in this episode. I LOVED the song "The King is Bad" That was hilarious! I also liked the song about cheese! LOL! There was something else that made this episode bad. There was an appearance of Plankton! I hate Plankton appearances so much! I did not like his part at all! This has to be one of the worst appearances of Plankton EVER! I mean he had terrible diologue! This was just a horrible episode!

    Overall, this episode gets an...F--------(14%)!

One of the best specials on the series, IMO. hide show

SpongeBob goes medieval! This is one of my favorite specials on the show, because it's hilarious! Unlike a lot of the specials on the show. But I wouldn't like this episode half as much if it weren't for Squiddly, Squidward's ancestor. He is the best medieval fool ever! I love his songs, specially the third one "I was the king's favorite fool.." The Dark Knight (Sandy's ancestor) was another unexpected, yet great character on the episode. Planktonimor, (Plankton's ancestor) was a very funny villain too "sparkly, or regular? Psyche-th!" lol that's one of my favorite quotes. The ending of the episode is what bugs me a little, you think it was a dream, but then Squiddly appears after being flattened by Patrick, as funny as it is, I didn't get it. But this still being an awesome episode. A+!

Episode Cast and Crew

  • For some odd reason, Nickelodeon airs this special more often than the rest of the other specials in the series. []
  • It would be just a tad odd that SpongeBob wouldn't do so well in the seahorse tournament because before, he rode Mystery, who was also a seahorse, just fine. []
  • It's possible that the adventure SpongeBob and Patrick go through is based on the plot for the original Super Mario Bros. game. For example, SpongeBob has to travel to Planktonimars castle and rescue Princess Pearl, a possible reference to Mario going to Bowser's castle to save Princess Peach. []
More Trivia
  • Nicktoons Network airdate: December 10, 2008 []
  • SpongeBob and Patrick were never meant to be the ones who go to save the town from Planktonimor. Actually, it was another sponge and starfish, who were stronger than SpongeBob and Patrick. However, for some unknown reason, this scene was later cut from the episode and had never aired on Nick. []
  • This is the only special that Patchy did not host. []
More Notes
  • (guard plucks one of SpongeBob's eyelashes)
    Guard: Make a wish. []
  • Planktonimor: Prepare to taste my wrath!
    SpongeBob: (laughs) Tiny powers! []
  • SpongeBob: Thank Neptune it was just a dream, right, Patrick?
Patrick: Ya, try tellin' that to Squidly.
(Get up, Squidly's flat like a pancake, clarinet is crushed and makes sqeeky sound) []
More Quotes
  • Plot
This plot is kind of similar to one in an anime show called Zero No Tsukaima. []
  • This episode is similar to Lord of the Rings according to the plot. []
  • Squidly: Hark, the princess...
This song is sung to the English patriotic song, Rule, Britannia! []
