The Sabres actually beat someone recently? Wow. They've gone into quite a slide after that spectacular start to the season. They got hit by a few injuries but I'm not sure that completely explains their problems. Maybe losing Craig Rivet was a bigger loss than anyone thought. Patrick Lalime hasn't done so well as the backup goalie either.

Yeah I saw Lalime come into a game a few weeks ago and he was taken out after giving up a vast amount of goals.

In other news, Craig Anderson has created a goaltender battle in Florida after his recent success. He had 40+ saves last night and allowed only one goal. Vokoun better watch out...and better not pout, Santa Clause is comin' to town!

For all of you Penguin fans, Tyler Kennedy is out for 4-6 weeks with a sprained knee. We are starting to lose a lot of players to injuries, Gonchar, Fleury, Zigomanis, and now Kennedy for instance. Janne Pesonen can get more time because of this injury but we can't afford to keep getting injuries becasue one of these days a star player can go down for the season ending our Stanley Cup Chase. Ryan Whitney has looked good recently andshould be playing very soon.

Listen to this! Edmonton and San Jose played tonight. After the first period San Jose outshot the Oilers 16-1, the score at the end of the period was 1-1. Yep the Oilers scored on their only shot against San Jose in the period.

I find that interesting because I haave been following the Sharks lately, mainly becasue I have alot of their players on my fantasy team, and I have seen day in a day out how good their team is. They dominate the possession and outshoot their opponents by wide margins in almost every game. IT's just amazing to see how dominant thier team is. I don't know whether their offense is the key to their success with their 4 to 5 goals a game, or if it their defense who give up around 15 to 25 shots on any given day.

Did anybody see on the news tonight of the footage of the two Zambonis arriving at Wrigley Field for the New Years Day Classic? The ramp on the truck wasn't ready yet and one of the Zamboni rolled right off the truck and back wheels hit the ground with a loud thud! The driver was fine but I actually laughed pretty damn loud when I saw that. Apparently the brakes froze.

What... no hockey posting, even with the 2009 NHL Winter Classic?? Well, the stupid Red Wings beat the Blackhawks 6-4 and scored fricking 5 unanswered goals, after the Hawks went up 3-1 at the end of the 1st period. Weather, rink, ice and wind wasn't really a factor in the Hawks, so it leads down to this: Wrigley Field it's cursed.

Oh, totally. Something about the Cubs must've rubbed off on the Hawks. They got off to a hot start and flamed out... just like the North Siders in the 2003 NLCS.

Since December came around the Penguins have been terrible. From then on they have looked like a completely different team and struggle to win. When the win it is by a slim margin too!

The Pens inked Staal for four more years which is a good thing in my opinion. We need to pick up a winger or two before the deadline like we did last year. Satan and Fedotenko aren't performing as well as we need. They are very streaky and we need balance. Hopefully Shero has some tricks in his back pocket for the deadline.

I'm no Wild fan, but what is the fate of Marion Gaborik? Now that's he had surgery on both hips, should he dip his toe into free agency or pull a Cuttino Mobley and retire altogether?

He is never healthy. The Wild might want to make him trade bait but I don't know what they could get for him.

Crosby injured his left knee yesterday against the Caps. He said he will try skating tomorrow to see if he can play against Anaheim in the Pens next game.

Actually, the Islanders have just made the Wild an offer- Gaborik for a foosball table and some spare goalie pads.

The Blues had been playing better before the break going 5-2-1 in January and beating a good Boston team in a crazy last five minutes. Hopefully they can keep the momentum. The list of injuries the team has had is sickening. Oshie, Johnson, Brewer, Karyia, McDonald have all missed over 20 games each.

The Capitals practically gave last night's game to the Bruins. The one DC defenseman got a minor for sticking (I think), and it set up the Boston power play in overtime. Are the Caps really this bad on the penalty kill?

79% on the PK. Of the current playoff teams only Edmonton is worse.

Buffalo has been playing much better lately. They've won 8 of their last 11 games, including last night's 10-2 blowout win at Edmonton, which is a decent if not great team.

The Sabres are holding onto one of the last playoff spots in the East (although there's still a long way to go). One of their biggest weaknesses is the backup goalie position. Patrick Lalime is 2-6 with a 3.19 GAA. The Sabres brought him in to serve as a reliable backup to Ryan Miller and get Miller some rest this season. The plan isn't working out so well. Miller is tied for the 4th-most games played this year among all NHL goalies.

He's playing better then he did as a blue in 05-06. Where he went 4-18-8 with a 3.64 GAA and a horrible .881 SV%.

Evgeni Nabakov plays a lot too! Not counting when he was injured, I think he has started every game but 2.

There backup Brian Boucher is actually good 9-1-1 1.87 GAA .927 SV%. He will probably play more down the stretch to keep Nabakov fresh for the playoffs

At least we can agree that this is Washington's achilles heel. How can a team make a deep playoff run if they can't stop the power play four-fifths of the time?
