With the NFL Draft tonight and the lockout coming to a possible end, maybe this is a good time to launch the annual football thread.

So, any thoughts on who's getting picked first? Did your team fill some gaping holes in the lineup?

It looks like Carolina are taking the overrated Can Newton first overall which is a train wreck waiting to happen. Let's just hope he doesn't steal any computers while he's there...

I'm wary of the Panthers' pick too, but maybe he'll clean up his act in the NFL. We'll see.

So far, I'm content with who the Bears picked. We had a hole in the O-line, and Gabe Carimi fits that tackle slot to a tee. Drafting that safety in the third round didn't make much sense, though.

I was definitely surprised to see Prince Amukamara go to the Giants. I thought he'd be picked in the top 10.

All this talk about the (alleged) end of the lockout is giving me a headache. The HOF Game is canceled, no questioning that. ESPN, you are a mess.

I'd still rather watch the UFL.

All these wash-ups from Dallas that the Bears signed are making me a tad wary...

Is this what happened the last lockout? Many many players being traded/signing with other teams? Ochocinco with the Patriots, Marion Barber with the Bears like you said... Anyhow, elsewhere Peyton Manning agrees to a 5 year contract with the Colts worth $90 million.

$90 million will buy him a LOT of chew. On the sidelines, he carries one Gatorade cup in each hand - one is to drink, the other is to spit dip in. You don't see too many tobacco chewing football players but the guy is a real redneck.

I wonder if he's ever mixed up the two. I bet so.

I'm actually sad the lockout ended. Would have loved to see the catastrophe & the fans freaking out.

I actually followed the UFL last season. The league said they'd have 8 teams for 2011 and that they'd kick off in August but since then, they folded the Florida Tuskers, went from 8 teams to 6 then 5, and pushed the kickoff date back to September. And now there's even talk of contracting the Hartford Colonials, which would put the league at a puny four teams. It's really sad that the league couldn't take advantage of the NFL's lockout.

I set up a TV.com pro football pick 'em league on Yahoo. If you are interested in joining send me a PM and I'll send you the ID # and password. Let me know if you prefer the deadline to be 5 min. before the first game or 5 min. before each game.

There is still time to join the tv.com Yahoo pick 'em league. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I made the deadline 5 minutes before the first game of the week. I had one request for it, and nobody else seemed to care one way or the other.
