The Lost City of Atlantis Has Been Found! A secret group of scientists have discovered the location of the famous lost city of Atlantis, but it's not on Earth. It's located in another galaxy altogether, the Pegasus galaxy. Stargate Atlantis, a spin-off from the highly successful Stargate SG-1 series, follows a multinational scientific and military group, lead by Diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir (played by actress Torri Higginson), headed on a one way trip to Atlantis. Their mission: to investigate the secrets of Atlantis, a city now known to have been built by ancient powerful beings, and bring whatever they discover back to Earth. They will be all on their own, with no means to return, with no means of rescue or support, unless they can find the technology they need in Atlantis to return them to Earth.
Once in Atlantis, the group finds the city abandoned; asleep for tens of thousands of years, and no power source left for a return home. They must find a power source within Atlantis' own Pegasus galaxy using the same Stargate system that got them there or they will be stranded forever. On the first planet they visit, they accidentally waken a new, powerful, and more evil enemy than human kind has ever faced, the Wraith. And the Wraith are hungry – for humans!
Follow the extraordinary adventures of an SGA team lead by Major John Sheppard (played by actor Joe Flanigan), and his team made up by his second in command Lt. Aiden Ford (played by actor Rainbow Sun Francks), and the Astrophysicist/Scientist Dr. Rodney McKay (played by actor David Hewlett, reprising the role he played in Stargate SG-1). Joining the team will be Teyla Emmagan (played by actress Rachel Luttrell), a beautiful, exotic, and strong-willed woman from the Pegasus galaxy.less «

  On April 8th Gateworld put out a story about the next SG1 movie being a done deal. In the story they confirm that an Atlantis movie is not even close to be finalized. I'm glad for an SG1 movie but I thought an Atlantis movie was part of the deal. I read a while back that filming was supposed to start by now but nothing is happening. Here's the link. http://www.gateworld.net/news/2009/04/third-sg-1-movie-has-a-go/ If an Atlantis movie isn't made this will only foster bad feelings toward Universe, maybe SG1 DVDs and the Sci Fi channel for cancelling a show we all loved and replacing it with a show that has a huge question mark over it. That's why I'm asking this question in a poll. What do you guys think? I was going to add an answer blaming it all on the Sci Fi channel but what I'm trying to gather is whether fans will have an adverse reaction toward the Stargate franchise. I have a good idea of what people's opinions are toward the SyFyllus network without asking. less «

  I must say "yes!" To be honest I'd almost prefer a few episodes instead of a movie. There are so many ideas and storylines out there in the Atlantis universe that it's just not feasible to explore them all even if MGM comes out with two Atlantis movies a year. We've got the Evil Asgard, the Robo Wraith, Todd and the "regular" Wraith, the Travelers, McKay's sister Jeanie, the Genii, the new Coalition, and the list goes on! How can we explore all these storylines in a few movies? Citizens of Earth, I vote YES!less «

  This is the spin off of the successive stargate sg1 series but this show really kicks it up a notch.Being set in another galaxy the atlantis team is left to fend off the new enemies the wraith who are the show's main nemesis. hide « show »

  Stargate Atlantis begins with a bang with the first episode Rising which basically set the pace for the entire show.Atlantis is far from a copy of sg1 being set in another galaxy plague with it's own problems and a new enemy known as the wraith.The wraiths motives are different from the goauld of sg1 however they both have an egostical and manical nature that sometimes has an alluring appeal to them.I would admit that the show does have it's low points filled with filler episodes that do nothing to advance the overall plot of stoping the wraith.Another
  great aspect is that we get to learn so much about the ancients or the lantians as they are often called,in a way humanising a race that we as viewers had no real connections to.

  SG-1 spin-off but much better hide « show »

  This is a wonderful spin off of Stargate SG-1. Stargate Atlantis is an excellent show with a great cast. The writers do a wonderful job with character interaction as well. The CGI is a major hit in this show. When a show that relies so much on the CGI it is important to make it good and this show gets the job done brilliantly. Atlantis takes the Stargate program to a new galaxy, with new characters and a new enemy. The enemy is a race called the Wraith. Dr. Rodney McKay returns to the Stargate franchise as a main character in Atlantis. I really like him heresince I never did in SG-1. And John Sheppard makes the show more fun.

  One of the most enjoyable shows to grace my TV set and at times a little lacking. It was still an excellent show.

  Although sometimes there seemed to be rather a few filler episodes the show mostly was a battle for control of Atlantis.
  
  The battle was finally won and the whole thing was flown back to Earth. During this time there were a number of enemies each rather powerful in their own way. But each lacked the ability to adapted like the team on Atlantis.
  
  There was constant upgrades, battles and things to find. Much like SG1 the Stargate was of heavy use. However there was far more enthusiast on ship to ship combat which was at a point in Stargate universe when the game was getting to powerful and easier to win.
  
  In the end, there was only one out-come.
  
  Mission success.

  Best ever! hide « show »

  I absolutly love show! This is one of my favourites! I really like season 3, season 4 and most of season 5. The finale is absolutely fabulous! My favourite characters are Rodney McKay, Jennifer Keller, Radek Zelenka and Ronon Dex. There should be more Rodney Episodes and less John episodes if you know what I mean. My favourite couple are Rodney and Jennifer and my favourite duo is Rodney McKay and Carson Beckett. This is positively on my most favourite shows ever list. There are a few episodes that I don't like, like "Inquisition" but it is a brilliant show.

  The decision of ending the show wasn't so bad after all. hide « show »

  I wasn't happy when they announced this would have been the last season of this great show, but after seeing the finale i'm happy with the decision they made : the battle and the way it ended ( the usual get in, drop the bomb, nobody gets hurt, etc..) plus the lack of focus on the Wraith and a certain number of "filler" episodes. they were running out of gas, and i'm truly sorry to say this. this remain, however, one of my favorite shows, a show able to create a whole new universe, full of marvels. Good Bye, Atlantis.
