New GroundEpisode Number: 63 Season Num: 3 First Aired: Friday February 18, 2000 Prod Code: 319 |
SG-1 discovers a planet on which two locals just discovered the Stargate that had been buried for thousands of years. When the team goes through the gate, they meet one of the discoverers, Nyan, an archeologist that was looking for ancient villages. Nyan tells them that the planet is divided into two religions: one that believes that all life began on their planet, and one that believes that the first humans had been brought to the planet using a "gateway." Those two parties have been at war for decades. Unfortunately the Stargate seems to be in territory possessed by the ones that do not believe in the Stargate.
Meanwhile the second scientist has warned the authorities and the army comes after the team. Only Teal'c escapes, and he is severely injured. The others are questioned by the army, who thinks they are enemy spies, and don't believe a word of what they say when they explain they came through the Stargate.
Now it's up to Teal'c to rescue the rest of SG-1, but while trying to escape he was been shot by a native weapon and loses his eyesight...

Richard Ian Cox (Nyan) would later play Dr. Gaul in the SG Atlantis Episode "The Defiant One."
(edit)
The sound effect of the Bedrosian shields zapping SG-1 and knocking them unconscious is the same sound effect used when the Salish from "Spirits" made people vanish.

Parey: What if they are telling the truth? What if it is the gateway and the Optricans are right?
Rigar: No, it’s a lie.
Parey: How can you be sure?
Rigar: I am sure because we have not spent our lives praying to a god who does not exist and many of our people have not lost their lives fighting a meaningless war. I won’t accept that. I have studied the book of Nefertum word for word, cover to cover. It is the truth. (edit) Rigar: And how is this illusion of water created as I have heard described?
Daniel: Well you're right in that, it is an illusion, it's not actually water.
Rigar: Then what is it?
Jack: Magic.
(edit) Sam: What happened to Nyan?
Jack: I'd imagine he's saving his own butt right about now. (edit) (after being captured)
Jack: Do you believe we come in peace?
(no answer)
Jack: Got a commanding officer around here?
(still no answer)
Jack: Wow, tough crowd. (edit) Jack: We should talk.
Rigar: Yes. Let us talk of your friend in the woods.
Jack: I have no friends. In the woods or otherwise. (edit)

When Teal'c and Nyan are leaving the cave Nyan's zat is open, but there was no opening sound heard.
(edit)
At the end of this episode, Nyan becomes Daniel's research assistant. Yet we never hear or see him again.
(edit)
In the opening scene, when Nyan is uncovering the gate, we see the Earth symbol. This is a unique symbol and shouldn't be on any gate other than Earth.
(edit)
Major Carter says that they got their first hit from the Cold Dialing program despite the fact that the wormhole has not yet been established.
(edit)
When Teal'c enters the cave with Nyan, there are no patches on his jacket! You can see the dark green velcro circles where they should be.
