This is great news! I'm only hoping that Continuum sells even better than The Ark of Truth and we get a 4th movie

That is great news that they are discussing a third movie. SG-1 must go on. Here is an article posted a couple of months ago on Gateworld. Brad Wright talks about the possibility of a third movie and what it may hold: http://www.gateworld.net/news/2008/05/wright_stargate_movies_need_onei.shtml

Lol, I hope that news a while back about the producers turning the 2-part Children of the Gods and 're-editing' it just to 'clean it up' and pass it off as a movie is not in the works

I'm pretty positive that's a separate project. The third movie will be an original piece of Stargate greatness

Well as stated in the Article, MGM is also pushing to get SGU out there but no network has bought the rights to it yet.

hopefully something will happen. me likes movies like the Ark of Truth, and Serenity (Firefly). but with movies it seems like they have to stuff so much into it and leave out so much too. with a whole season, they have time for the main arc with details and plus some fillers

So they are really focusing on the movies. Good for them.
Whatever it is I know they'll be great.

Yep according to Stargate Solutions at Comic Con they announced it.

The main news for SG-1 is that both a third movie and Stargate Universe are in development. That doesn't mean either one has been green-lighted, but MGM has authorized Wright to work on them, especially the third movie. Note this differs from previous stories saying there would either be two more SG1 movies OR Stargate Universe, but not both. Perhaps it will be one of each. In any case Brad is starting to work on a story for the third movie.

The rest of the article along with pics especiall those of RDA and Joe Flanigan aka Sheppard with a totally sexy 5 o'clock shadow going on!

This is some of the best news SG wise I've heard in a while. MGM wouldn't entertain even the IDEA for either a new movie or a new show if they didn't see potential profit.

yeah unless this movie totally bombs in sales, which is very doubtful, we'll definetly get a third.

I just hope they don;t do one on the big screen. Yes it probably would be really good. But just look at the x-files, that movie bombed, although it was up against stiff competition. Still we'll probably never get a third movie of that and if stargate went the same route I don't see it making a whole crap load of money at the box office. Then if it bombs there, it will make it that much harder for mgm to greenlight a 4th one. So I'd just rather we get more movies and they stay in direct to dvd land to make that happen.

I agree, the direct to dvd route is best. We are more likely to get more movies that route than the big screen rte. The producers don't have to try and sell the movie to the non-sci fi fanbase out there.

    Offtopic:
Actually, the actress who plays Scully said in an interview that plans for a 3rd X-Files movie are already in motion.

    Ontopic:
Although Continuum was good, I felt that it was weak compared to the Ark of thruth.
I hope that the 3rd one will be better. The final movie must have humans becoming the 5th race and meeting the furlings....

But the humans are the 5th race, unless you mean the rest of humanity outside of the SGC?

Yeah Furlings are a must for the third movie, as well as making it O'neill centric.

I say let the Furlings remain ambiguous. I think it's hilarious they have been mentioned once, (well twice in 200 but that doesn't count) then *ZAP* never again.

As for O'Neill centric, he has to be in it, but the show evolved to be about the team more then any one character. Feasibly, if the storyline centres on O'Neill, the majority of people will be happy. However, keep the other guys in focus, cos they're alright, yeah they're allllllright.

When the time comes for a third movie it all depends on how many of the other cast members may be available to do it. manda Tapping could be busy with Sanctuary and Michael Shanks and Chris Judge are working on a pilot so you never know.
