ShootoutEpisode Number: 15 Season Num: 1 First Aired: Wednesday December 17, 1975 Prod Code: SH1-14 |
After a particularly long and awkward interrogation, Starsky and Hutch decide to unwind for the evening by going for a meal at an Italian restaurant. But the evening out is hardly the relaxing time anticipated when the restaurant is taken over by two syndicate hitmen planning to take out a Mob boss when he arrives for dinner. In the commotion, Starsky is critically injured with a gun-shot wound, and Hutch must try to keep himself, his partner, and the restaurant patrons alive while dealing with the trigger-happy gunmen...

In the origal draft of the script, Starsky and Hutch actually "make" the criminals and plan the trip to the bathroom/jukebox so thay can get the bad guys between them. It is only when the waitress gets in the way that Starsky gets shot.
(edit)
The plot of this episode, a fan favourite and--bar the opening and closing scene--set entirely in real time, was later recycled for the late fifth season The A-Team episode 'Without Reservations'. In it, Face (Dirk Benedict) was wounded instead of Starsky. Elements of the basic premise were also loosely reworked for the third season T.J. Hooker episode 'Deadlock' (1984), where the real-time action was set in a department store closed for the night, and Romano (Adrian Zmed) being the one wounded.
(edit)
Danny Wells is mis-credited as Danny Welles on the credits of this episode.
(edit)
Starsky has been wounded and he moans and groans while Hutch takes care of him. However, when he throws the jug to the wall, in order to distract the hit men, we do not hear Starsky utter at least a scream of pain.
(edit)
When Hutch has carried the wounded Starsky out to the back room and laid him down, most of Hutch's whispered lines are noticeably re-recoded in post production – they are of noticeably different sound quality, and are barely in sync with his lips moving.
