Steve is a triple-threat: an actor, entertainer, and comedian. He began doing stand-up comedy in the early 1990s, eventually leading to a long stint as host of It's Showtime at the Apollo, picking up where his friend Cedric the Entertainer left off. His success as a stand-up comedian led to The WB network giving him his own show, the top-rated Steve Harvey Show.

Steve was the headliner on the popular 'Kings of Comedy' tour in the 1990s that Spike Lee filmed as a documentary that he turned into a hit movie that showcased the comedians on tour called The Original Kings Of Comedy. The movie inspired Steve's short lived comedy/sketch series Big Time in 2003.

Steve was one of the hosts on the somber documentary on BET, Diamonds in the Rough, which focused on teens that live in poor conditions in the housing projects.

Steve: I have seen some crazy people do some crazy things on my variety show. I have to stop and ask them a lot of the time, just how they figured out that they could do the things that they do, some of it is just plain freaky.

Steve: Being on a comedy tour is like traveling with family, everyone is all having a great time...then all of a sudden it turns sour. One thing gets said out of turn, and everyone is on everyone's last nerve. After an hour of silence, we all start laughing about it.
