Billed as Rocky Echevarria, he landed the role of Joe, the teen-aged son in the first bilingual sitcom on public television, "Que Pasa, U.S.A.?" He also appeared in "The Rockford Files" and "Hill Street Blues", and starred on the short-lived television series, "From Here to Eternity", under this name. Changing his name to Rocky Bauer, he made a couple of TV movies, "She's in the Army Now" and "An Innocent Love". After being offered his first big-screen role (Manny Rivera in Brian DePalma's classic, "Scarface"); he Americanized his name, using his maternal Jewish grandmother's maiden name to avoid being typecast as a Latino.
Steven Bauer married actress, Melanie Griffith, in the early 1980's; they had one child, Alexander. His second marriage to Ingrid Anderson produced another son, Dylan; but also ended in divorce. Currently, he is married and lives in Miami. Born in Cuba, Steven Bauer immigrated to southern Florida with his family, when he was three years old.
