DiggRumor: Britney in talks for Emmys appearance

While there were certainly more worthy headlines this past week, none were driven into the public eye like a steel spike more than Britney Spears' performance at Saturday's MTV Video Music Awards.
These days don't look so bad now, do they?
By now, everyone has heard the criticism of the singer's performance--which ranged from the obvious "she lacked focus" to just-plain-cruel "she looked fat"--that opened the awards show. But if the stars align just right, says Us magazine, she may be appearing at another awards show to make amends--this Sunday.
The online branch of the celebrity-gossip magazine is reporting that Fox higher-ups are "in negotiations" with Britney Spears to have the singer make a guest appearance at the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards this weekend. According to an inside source, "the idea is to have her come on and apologize for the VMAs."
It's important to reiterate that this is all rumor and speculation at the moment, as Us quotes another source close to Spears who says nothing is official. "All I can say is that the Emmy people aren't dealing with her record company, her manager, or her agents at William Morris," says the source, according to Us. "So if she is doing anything for the Emmys then it's not going through the official channels."
While an appearance by the 25-year-old would certainly boost ratings for the show, it also seems incredibly misplaced. Last time we checked, the Emmys were about television, not pop music. And no, we don't count Britney and Kevin: Chaotic as Emmy-worthy.
