The sleestaks are headed to the big screen!
The long-in-development Land of the Lost has finally been given the go-ahead for production by Universal, reports Variety. Brad Silberling (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events) will direct the adaptation, and funnyman Will Ferrell will star in the $100-million-budget movie.
Land of the Lost is based on the 1970s children's morning show of the same name, but unlike the television program, it will be intentionally funny. The show was created by the seemingly acid-dropping Sid and Marty Krofft, who also produced the totally far-out shows The Banana Splits Adventure Hour and H.R. Pufnstuf.
In Land of the Lost, an adventurer and his two children become trapped in an alien world inhabited by dinosaurs, cavemen known as pakuni, and evil reptilian humanoids known as the sleestaks. Land of the Lost ran for three season from 1974 to 1976.
No word on who will play Cha-Ka.

This is the worst news. Land of the Lost could have been re made like Battlestar Galactica. To make it into a loser comedy with Will "most of my movies suck" Ferrell is just insane. The suits in Hollywood must be crazy.
Good God do not make this movie a comedy!!!!! It deserves better! Universal you will ruin it if you make it a comedy. Please, for the love of GOD do NOT make this a comedy!!!!!!
Note to linkthehero82: You said that he played Federal Wildlife Marshal Willenholly who was named for the three main characters on Land of the Lost, "Marshall, Will and Holly". Marshall was their last name. It was Rick, Will and Holly. That being said, I'm not sure I'm gonna pay good money to see this. It would be alot better if made into a good sci-fi adventure.

I was quite fond of LOL as a kid, and I remember having my first girl crush on brother Will. Holly had the golden "brady girl" braids to die for. But Ferrell making a box office film based on it? Lets get real. First off, MOST of previous tv-to-film movies have bombed (FLINTSTONES, LITTLE RASCALS, RICHIE RICH, BEVERLY HILLBILLIES). And just because Ferrell has finally made a successful name for himself in Hollywood land, he honestly thinks his LOL is going to be a money maker?? Second - tv to film ideas never do well because the films are only "based on" the original tv series, which always ends in a writing/producing disaster. Duh. Look what happened with DUKES OF HAZZARD (not to mention poor casting). While I have admired and respected Farrells work so far, this LOL idea is a bust. PEANUT
I'm not a fan of sit-coms or comedys, but if Will Ferrell's in it, you can bet I'll see it

Hate the show when I way a kid. It was so corney. Now a new generation can get sick.
Please if there is any justice don't play it for laughs and make it campy. It has the potential to be a good scifi along the lines of a Jurassic Park if done properly. Will Ferrell? You can not be serious - big mistake even before the start of production.
The original was cheesy and fun (at least when I was a kid). Im probably not going to see this movie until its on free TV. Like so many attempts to take an old series and make a movie out of it, odds are it will end up backfiring and be awful. What will the opening song in the movie be? CHAKA KHAN's "I Feel For You"?
The author seems to forget that there was also a Land Of The Lost revival series Saturday mornings on ABC back in the early 1990s. It starred Timothy Bottoms as the dad. I used to watch the show back when Saturday morning tv, especially on ABC, was good. I still remember parts of the theme song.
Does anybody else see this as being exactly like when they tried to make the Starsky & Hutch movie as a comedy? How did that one do, by the way?
I was excited that a movie would be made. now it's going to be a comedy? No way, bad idea.
I don't understand why some Hollywood execs think it would be a great idea to take a cherished series and turn it into an intentional comedy. Who are these people? Can we write to them and tell them that this is a bad idea?

My first reaction to the headline was YES (finally the serious take this deserves)! Then Will Ferrell's name came up in the story... have to be in a totally different mood for THAT version, and I haven't decided how excited I'm going to remain.

Don't make it a comedy! It should be straight up sci-fi!
I loved that show, but like most tv to movie adaptations, they usually don't end up to be as good as the original.
