Even Ned the pie-maker's magic touch and James Tupper's rugged good looks can't stop what is looking more and more like inevitability: The Writers Guild of America strike is going to cut the seasons of television shows short.
But just because their seasons may be shortened, it doesn't mean ABC's Pushing Daisies and Men in Trees can't give proper sendoffs. Both shows are preparing potential season finales in case their runs are stunted by the strike, says TVGuide.com.
Pushing Daisies is currently in production of its ninth episode--which is looking more and more like the last of its successful first season. Before the strike hit, ABC picked up the show for a full 22-episode season.
Daisies creator Bryan Fuller told TVGuide.com, "As we were scrambling to rewrite [Episode 9], we added several elements that will put many balls into the air and hopefully encourage the audience to come back and see how they land."
Men in Trees showrunner Jenny Bicks had a similar outlook for her show, and prepped an alternate ending for closure. However, Trees began its second season with five unaired episodes and will have an expected 19 episodes ready to air. In contrast, most other shows are capping out at around nine to 12 episodes.
These aren't the first shows to take this course of action. Heroes creator Tim Kring said his team shot an alternate ending to its 11th episode of the current season that could also serve as a season finale.

love 'em both! i don't want to see either end halfway through a season but if they do i am glad they will have nice cliff-hanger finales.

that is such a bummer I love dasies but hey maybe the can come back after the strike
I just hope that if these shows come out on DVD, they don't have the nerve to charge $40+ for a season of only 9 to 12 episodes when you would normally pay that for a full season.
I hope Men in Trees will end with a proper closure if it's cancelled this season.I love this show so much!
Well just because they are shortening seasons doesn't mean the shows are canceled. Daisies has a greater chance of coming back past-strike than any of the other shows that have yet to be picked up for a full season. So It will be back. Don't worry. Now Shows like Chuck and Dirty Sexy Money...that have not been given a full reason renewal... they might not come out of this alive. But the strike is happening for good reasons... Damned shame, i thought Pushing Daisies was ahead enough to avoid being hit by the strike that badly.
I wish they wouldn't do this and instead trust their viewers to understand and wait for their shows to be completed and shown as the creator's intended instead of being butchered because they need an ending for when the scripts run out. Besides running out of scripts is the TV execs own stupid fault for not trusting their own judgment and ordering full seasons of the shows they premiere each season. instead they edge their bets and when something like this happens they get caught with their pants down.
(Loud Sigh) This has to end. What will I watch? Pushing Daisies is one of my favorite new show. Maybe they'll show repeats. Yay?....
