LATEST NEWS!

Upcoming big-screen adaptation of the paranormal television hit is finally christened by creator Chris Carter. It's called...

Details on the upcoming X-Files movie have been held under lock and key like that dead and probed alien body in Area 51. The film's storyline is still a mystery to all but a few lucky crew members, and creator Chris Carter has gone to great lengths to keep it that way.

"We went to almost comical lengths to keep the story a secret," Carter told the Associated Press. "That included allowing only the key crew members to read the script, and they had to read it in a room that had video cameras trained on them."

Finally, one of the film's major secrets has been revealed--its name. Carter finally disclosed the title today, and it will sound awfully familiar to fans of the show.

The X-Files: I Want to Believe is scheduled to hit theaters on July 25, and will once again follow FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they dabble in supernatural occurrences. The phrase "I Want to Believe" is a direct reference to Mulder's attitude toward all things unexplainable and became the best-known slogan from the show during its nine-year run on television.

"It's a natural title," Carter said. "It's a story that involves the difficulties in mediating faith and science. 'I Want to Believe.' It really does suggest Mulder's struggle with his faith."

Carter says the movie is a stand-alone piece of work and is designed to appeal to new and hardcore X-Files fans alike. Also cast in the movie are rapper Xzibit, Amanda Peet (Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip), and Billy Connolly (Fido).

I have to admit I'm disappointed becasue I wnated to see a continuation of the alien arc. Mulder's faith? Not so much. After waiting years, for a sequel to the show, it's the alien question that most needs answering. But I may be worng and it will turn out to be great.

At the end of the day the title isn't important. What X-Files fans (and others) need is a credible and exciting plot which also deals in a believable way the continuing relationship between Mulder and Scully. Remember at the end of the TV series the pair were on the run after Mulder had been tried (and found guilty!) of murder. Their son William having been given away for adoption.

Ehh-----the title matters little, the only news, and yes I know its old news, about this movie that matters is that it will be "stand-alone"......sad, just sad. Well they have a couple more years until the big stuff is supposed to happen, in real time I mean, so i guess this will keep the brand out out there so they can make the REAL X-Files movie that fans have expected since the finale of the series.

It´s awesome. I think it´s better a stand alone than a mytharc! I think the show was about that, to believe in situations that were unbelievable and find a way to understand them. LG

I like the fact that Carter says that the movie is about Mulder's struggle with his faith. we should be in for a real treat. looking forward to' I Want to Believe'

The titel sounds dumb. "The truth is out there" would have been better or maybe "Trust no one".

As a huge X-Files fan, I find this title very disappointing considering the movie doesn't touch on the grand mytharc of the show and instead chooses the "monster of the week" type-scenario. Granted the "I want to believe" statement has been important for themes throughout the whole show and not just the alien conspiracy, but to me the title just doesn't make sense to me without that conspiracy tie-in. It's almost like they couldn't think of anything good so they chose the most iconic X-Files thing they could think of. Meh. 'RichMatchMaking. com'. It is a hot celeb & millionaire dating site where you can meet lots of famous people and beauties. Oh well. I just hope the movie is great after all these years... It's been too long.

I loved the x-files, but is hollywood so dry they have to drum up old tv shows for movies?

alot of people are just saying "can't wait". but what about the title? it sounds horrible. it's more of an episode title than a movie title. bleh. oh wells. im sure for everyone who doesn't like it, there will be those that love it.

Sometimes the simple and obvious is the best. After the decade hiatus, it's perfect for giving you that warm feeling of familiarity for the return of the X-Files.

"I want to believe" sounds so obvious, like it's the first thing that they thought of. I do not really like the title. I'm sure the movie will be awesome though.

The title fits in well with the whole X Files theme from the past and ties the movie to the tv series well. But at what point do any of us believe? Maybe this movie will partially answer the question for us about the beliefs of Mulder and Scully. Or maybe it will tell us just how far their beliefs have come in the nine years the tv series was running. But truly - I dont believe the movie will answer this premise as this is one of the reasons we all keep watching - THE GREAT UNKNOWN!!!

All I need to find out is if Frank Black will be in this or not. If he is, I'll be there on the opening day. 'Cause I like the X-Files but I adore Millenium.

Because that's the slogan on Mulder's UFO poster in The X Files office. I'll go see it, but I'm not expecting anything more than an extended episode that tries to make up for one of the worst finales in TV history. One for the die-hards and one or two nostalgia hunters, but judging by the halved budget (compared to Fight the Future) that Fox gave Carter, not even they expect it to do huge business.

I think the title sums up the thoughts of fans regarding this movie. After the awful final season and the time that has passed since the series ended, I Want to Believe it will be worth seeing.
