Rumor: Grey's may axe Izzie

Source says Grey's Anatomy creator is thinking of killing off Katherine Heigl's character after Emmy hubbub.

When Grey's Anatomy star Katherine Heigl went public with her withdrawal from Emmy contention, the actress opened up a can o' worms. Heigl stated that she was pulling her name out of this year's race because she felt she wasn't given the material to warrant a nomination.

Heigl: Evil genius? Or just misunderstood?

Heigl: Evil genius? Or just misunderstood?

Her comment was seen by many as a slam on the Grey's writing staff, and possibly part of a master plan crafted to get her excused from the show so she can pursue a film career. If a report late last week from E! Online is correct, Heigl could very well be wringing her hands, cackling maniacally, and muttering, "It's all going according to plan!"

According to E!, a source from inside the Grey's camp says that show creator Shonda Rhimes is (cover your ears, kids) "pissed." The mole also says, "They're thinking of killing [Heigl's character Izzie Stevens] off. They want Izzie dead."

However, such a move would be drastic and likely wouldn't happen. Regardless of what goes on behind the scenes, Heigl remains one of Grey's most popular characters and her star is rising faster than most of her castmates. A brash decision to end Izzie just doesn't seem like a good business decision.

Heigl's representatives aren't commenting on the situation yet, but another source tells The Los Angeles Times that the rumors aren't true and that Heigl is under contract for another season and will return.

She should not have done that becuase know that she showed her winning side and I am better then you side her career will fall

I doubt they will kill her off. I read in US Weekly the same thing but they said they are giving her a brain tumor and not let her or anyone know whether she lives or dies. That way it will shake her up a bit. Also, they will probably see how fans accept the story line im assuming??? Killing off Izzie would be a drastic and risky move. People say killing Marissa off the OC killed that show. I dont believe that's true. I don't think killing Izzie off this show would hurt the show as bad. But, it would lose a large fanbase and many viewers. This could be an interesting storyline to watch and would be an amazing emotional story for Heigl to ac t and show everyone the skills she does possess for a emmy nomination well deserved. She was right in every way to pull herself out of the nominations. She was not given alot last season.

Well, as the article said, killing Izzie off is incredibly drastic and probably won't happen. They may present the character with some medical problems to add spice to the script, but I can't imagine one of the main characters dying. It's just as ridiculous as killing off Meredith, Derek, Alex, Cristina, Bailey, or any other significant character on the show. It's just not a good idea and would most likely signal the end of "Grey's Anatomy"--and despite everything, I think the series has a lot of good years left in it.

Some people love Izzie, others hate her, and others like her for the most part, but are just annoyed with her from time to time. That's how I am. Her character has a huge fan base, just like all the other people on the show, and I don't think anyone really wants to see her go.

If you ask me, it's just a huge rumor being blown out of proportion, and Katherine Heigl's recent comments make it even easier to make up stories like this. They could go really dramatic with the plot, but kill Izzie off? I truly, truly doubt it.

Ah no don't kill off Izzie! She's finally getting to be the Izzie I'd come to love in the 1st season of Grey's. Yeah maybe she could've been more loyal to the show but I think she's right, she didn't have a lot to work with last season.

They can't kill off Izzie! It's IZZIE damnit!
Grey's just would not be the same without her, or any of them to be honest. If they did that Grey's fans would not be happy at all. Surely the writers wouldn't be stupid enough to do that just because of some misunderstanding

I think it would be a big mistake to kill Izzie. I believe that many people would stop watch Greys Anatomy!
Also I think this move by Shonda Rhimes will make the rest of the cast feel anxious, not because Katherine Heigl is the person who will leave the show, but because show creator gives a message that anyone who act by his/herself will be rejected from the show.(see what happened with Isaiah Washigton)

To me, she'll always be the painfully annoying neice in Under Seige 2: Dark Territory, no matter how many Emmy's they throw at her.

save Izzie

You know I personally love Katherine Heigl. I think that especially now a days when so many stars are either 1. out there getting arrested, and put in rehab, or 2. conforming to a mold that isnt herself. I believe that Katherine shows her normalcy as a human being, standing up for what she thinks is right. Is she a little bit outspoken, yes, does she have foot in mouth disease, yeah a little bit, but WHO DOESN'T. I think killing Izzie Stevens off of Greys Anatomy would be a major blow to the show. Regardless of how the writers feel, she has a HUGE fan base, and I know for a fact many viewers will stop watching. How many more characters can they ween off of this show, before it loses its popularity. We lost Kate Walsh, Isiah Washington, now Katherine Heigl...really? The truth of the matter is, the writing for season 2 really was sub par to the writing in the previous 3 seasons. I believe Shonda was the one who said we would be getting back to the Grey's we loved in season 4, and due to the writers strike I feel the whole season really was just unbalanced. Katherine may be biting the hand that feeds her as some might say, but look at what Chandra Wilson(Bailey), publicly noted. She said that the emmy nominations are for ONE SPECIFIC episode...not the whole season, and it needs to be a high DRAMA episode or high COMEDY, and Katherine really didn't have either...so maybe she should of put it in better words yes, but I think the producers and writers should seriously consider killing her off...other wise I think the show will have far bigger problems, then an outspoken actress.

Oh, boo hoo. Get gone already.
Posted 07/15/2008 6:38am
if they kill her off they may as well kill the show
Posted 07/15/2008 6:10am
Kill her off ang inject some life into a very stale show. izzy is a loser character in season 3 and the writing on Greys was so bad it was impossible show to watch and enjoy it. However, Katie needs to pull her head in - anyone who sat through the painful 27 dresses knows her acting isn't that great.

She must think her middle name is Pedestal. She makes herself out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, but all she does is cause ire among her peers. If she truly had such convictions about her work, she'd speak up beforehand and not pull stunts after the fact. She decides what roles she takes. If she doesn't like them, she shouldn't take them. Instead, she goes ahead and takes the role, and then complains afterwards that it was beneath her. In the end, she's responsible for her own actions and should stop trying to pass the buck.

Kill Her, Kill them all, then let the dr's of scrubs treat them
Posted 07/15/2008 3:26am
They cut Burke from the show and now they want to cut Izzie even if she's right. Izzie is the best. Heigel is the best!!!
Posted 07/15/2008 1:50am
the truth is hard, the writers made Izzie a stupid sh*!%t last season, she was right....sorry writers
Posted 07/14/2008 10:20pm
Personally I don't like what Izzie's character has become, she's pathetic to say the least when she used to be so sweet and endearing! I just hate when actors feel their "too good" for the show that gave them a shot. It didn't work for Topher Grace (That 70's Show) and I'm not sure it'll work for Katherine Heigl, though she's at least had the good sense to build up a film career before bashing her show.

The writers need to quit whining, I generally dont watch greys, but had they not been a bunch of babies and go on strike, then mabye the material wouldnt have suffered and she would not of made those comments. The actors have every right to speak out about the writers, they are the ones who represent the show, and take the heat when the quality starts to fall, and they want it to be as good as it can ever bit as much as the writers, if not more.
Posted 07/14/2008 8:15pm
As far as I'm concerned, the actors have no right to speak out against the writers. For all intents and purposes it is THEIR show. The actors are simply there to bring it to life. I'm not saying the writing was good OR bad, I'm just saying that Katherine (while I still think she is wonderful acting-wise) had no right to do what she did. If anything, she's bashing herself by not accepting the award. If the writing was as bad as she claimed, yet STILL to be nominated as best actress is a great honor. It means she must have worked twice as hard. Stupid move, Katherine. Veryyy stupid.
Posted 07/14/2008 6:32pm
How pittyfull and narrow minded are these writers? You kill a character if she speaks her mind about the quality of work she's been given? This reeks of censorship to me....
Posted 07/14/2008 5:51pm
i dont think the show would be as good with out her but her head is getting way to big
Posted 07/14/2008 5:46pm
Thank you Katherine! Finally someone is willing to speak up and take a stance against the horrific writing that Grey's has suffered over the past 2 years. Maybe Shonda and her writing staff will finally wake up and smell the coffee. As for killing off Izzie, well, I just think it would make the show stink even more than it does currently. They should instead restore her character (and the show) to her/its original greatness!

I can't believe all the support I see. She has been whining since season 2. And the nail in her coffin for me was when she bashed knocked up. That movie help her career and she CHOSE to do it. She had no right. She's a arrogant diva, I say get rid of her.
Posted 07/14/2008 5:37pm
She did the right thing, Seasons 2 and 3 were tough acts to follow and it's not Izzie's anatomy. Personally, I think Gizzie took alot of credibility away from the character. I'm sure she'll stay it's an emsemble piece thats what is so great about it and instead of looking at the Emmy thing as a snipe and the writers, you could see it as a magnanimous act designed to give other up and coming actresses and chance to shine in the awards spotlight.
Posted 07/14/2008 5:01pm
Don't watch the show so I don't really care about what will happen.
Posted 07/14/2008 3:40pm
This just leads to more drama and uncomfortable moments on the set. Personally I think she wants to get out of her contract, but I have two words for her.... David Caruso. It's going to be interesting if the writers will strike back somehow.
Posted 07/14/2008 2:58pm
save Izzie !!!!
Posted 07/14/2008 2:12pm
I don't watch Grey's Anatomy but I do applaud Katherine for withdrawing her name for Emmy consideration. I strongly feel that she put her integrity first when she spoke out about the the the scripts not meriting an Emmy nod. The writer's should be upset with themselves and not her. An actor's performance is only as good as the material they get. In the future, I hope more actor's take a stand and follow her cue.
Posted 07/14/2008 1:48pm
her character is getting a little old
Posted 07/14/2008 1:42pm
They seem to fire people when they have an opinion, don't they, hmmm how very undemocratic. I think Katherine should be allowed to speak the truth personally. It's not like she used any racist comments now, oops that's another ex-Grey's death knoll.
Posted 07/14/2008 1:07pm
So the punishment now for speaking the truth is death... very nice Shondra... maybe you could get your cracker-jack staff to write Izzie something other than the crap she had last season... She spent so much time whining and pining for George... It was embarrassing...

They should be happy she didn't quit!
Posted 07/14/2008 12:43pm
Why punish the talented actress when they should be punishing the non-talented writers!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted 07/14/2008 12:35pm
I don't agree that she slammed the show by removing her name from the nominations. I believe she was doing the right thing by pulling her name from the list. I think she did a fantastic job with her character on Greys - when Izzie lost Denny Duquette - but for me, there was nothing really memorable about Izzie last season.
Posted 07/14/2008 12:18pm
I'm kind of split on this news. First off, I'm extremely opinionated and am always speaking my mind. I wouldn't want to be fired just because of my mouth, though that happens quite often in Hollywood under scrutany. On the other hand, actors and actress' must always respect their writers. Without the writers, there's no show. They are, by far, the most important and under appretiated people on a television staff. In this case, I am totally for Grey's firing Heigl. It's actress' like this, who take their first ground-breaking and name-making jobs and disregarding them and rubbing them in the dirt, that really deserve to be out of Hollywood, or at least out of a job.
Posted 07/14/2008 12:16pm
that's perfect idea.thats why You never talk back to your writers
Posted 07/14/2008 12:07pm
Yeah, that's a good idea.... Give her exactly what she wants. If they really want to get revenge ruin the character so that no one likes her anymore. Then get rid of her when her contract ends.
