Overexposure is a word that should be reserved for special situations. This is one of those situations. The Hills "stars" Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt will be furthering their overexposure with a guest stint on CBS's comedy How I Met Your Mother. The news broke as rumor a week ago by Zap2It.com, but it's only recently that CBS has confirmed it.
Marketing stunt? Sure. But it worked for HIMYM before with Britney Spears, and it could work again with Heidi and Spencer (or it could backfire as fans of the show have expressed outrage). Either way, the writers of How I Met Your Mother are a capable lot, and they're one of the few scribe groups that could actually make this funny.
And it sounds like it has potential. According to E! Online, the situation will be this: Jason Segel's character Marshall goes on the hunt for nice peaceful place at work to...go doo-doo. Gossip magazine in hand, Marshall scours the office for a bowl to pinch a loaf while Heidi and Spencer, playing themselves (sorta), ridicule him from the cover of the magazine. Look for the episode to air sometime in January.
Like I said, if one show's creative crew can make a splash with this situation (pun most certainly intended), it's the writers at HIMYM.

Oh no! Spencer and Heidi's 15 mins of fame are hopefully almost up. I love HIMYM, but I hate Spencer. Kim Kardashian will appear in this episode as well, according to her blog.

you know if it back fires and the two of them go down the loo it might mean the hill's get killed off and we would never have to see them again so role on.
Oh, god, no. If this is the series execs' way of getting attention, then I guess I can understand. But there are other choices. Better choices even. Like people who can actually act.

I get suspicious that the writers are running out of ideas when they start to resort more frequently to guest stars...Britney, Regis, now these 2 idiots from The Hills.
Love HIMYM, love The Hills, hate Spencer though. But I really like this idea, looking forward to it.
I like it when sitcoms have cameos from big names, so I say bring it on. It could actually turn out to be quite funny.

Never heard of them and never heard of the Hills...
I never got The Hills, it's obv scripted, no one can be that dramatic all the time. But the stunt on HIMYM might work, as long as they don't guest star twice (We all know how bad Everything Must Go was with Britneys return)
