Report: Goldblum not mixing well at Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Look into my eyes...

All you Law & Order: Criminal Intent fans out there are probably wondering what the hold up is after USA delayed the drama's season premiere twice, the most recent coming a few days ago. The answer: The Fly.

Technically, the man who played The Fly, according to a report from Fox News. Citing sources inside the Criminal Intent fortress, Fox says that new star Jeff Goldblum's character hasn't exactly been up to par.

"The two episodes they have [with Goldblum] are terrible," the source reportedly said, specifically calling out the Jurassic Park star. Goldblum is taking over for departing star Chris "Mr. Big" Noth.

So terrible that new producer Robert Nathan, the man who worked on Goldblum's half of the episodes (the other half stars Vincent D'Onofrio), has allegedly been axed.

USA Network delayed the show in October and again this week; the program's new season was supposed to begin airing last fall, but was pushed back to early 2009 and then again to summer 2009. USA has given the same excuse for both delays: they want all 16 episodes to air without a break, which clearly makes no sense.

The last season of Law & Order: Criminal Intent premiered in October 2007, but because of the writers strike, the final episode didn't air until last August.

  • I reaaly like the JG episodes last year and have been looking forward to seeing him in new ones. Goren's weird schtick has gotten way tiresome and JG added a fresh character perspective. I hope the wrikles get worked out. I'd be very disappointed if JG's character never made it back. Although there are tons of CI reruns available, these days I intentionally avoid the ones with Goran. add a comment

  • Jeff Goldblum saved the series from Chris Noth, thanks! He is such an incredible actor and a perfect match for CI, can't wait to see more of him...

  • From the episodes I've seen so far, I have to agree that Goldblum isn't the right person for the job. I guess they were going for another quirky detective like Goren's, but Goldblum just doesn't fit. They need to try again, if there will be a season 9.

  • Am glad i dont read or listen to socalled critics, the season opener with Jeff Goldblum was actually quite nice and not the disaster i was warned to expect! am sure he'll grow into the role, hell i havent seen a single bad episode of this series since season 1!

  • Goldblum does not make me want to watch this show. If anything, it's made it a definite channel changer.

  • Jeff Goldblum Sucks! He was terrible in Raines which died almost immediately. He will kill Criminal intent. An hour of his head shaking, stuttering and whining? Who did he have sex with to get this job? The only thing he did that didn't suck was Jurassic Park and that's only because of the special effects. Even then he whined for two hours. Fire him, and the idiot that hired him.

  • I don't mind Jeff in some things but I really have no desire to see him in this show. For some reason I just can't picture it. In my opinion, the casting director should look up some fan sites, see the lists of actors that people would like to see on the show. There's so many good actors out there, some big names, others not so much, but all good still. I love Goren/Eames episodes the most but Logan/Wheeler grew on me. I think they have to make Wheeler's partner someone people will love for one reason or another otherwise it'll be hard for everyone to keep watching those weeks - Wheeler grew on me but it doesn't mean I like her anywhere near as much as Eames.

  • They should bring in Alicia Witt. Double Detective Redheads!

  • I so miss this show! I think that anybody would be better then goldblum-I could go with someone like Michael Madsen who always seems to play the guy who could be a good or bad guy-I enjoyed him in the short lived series Vengence where he played a guy who helped people who got taken advantaged of almost like the show Leverage on USA-----------oh just hurry back Robert Goren!!!!

  • In the episode "purgatory" season 7 #11 they had guest star seth gilliam play a detective from another unit transferred in to be Eames temporary partner while goren was still undercover. Seth was fantastic the entire run of the hbo show "The Wire" and he was great in this episode of law and order C.I. they should bring him in to replace cris noth. i guarantee you all of us that have started skipping the episodes that dont have goren and eames will start watching every episode again.

  • I had a feeling the Jeff would have tanked...He has nothing on the original cast...Please if you could Give Billy Hufsey a chance...

  • Ok, nuff already... hire me. I'm a retired cop AND I can act.

  • They should just forget the whole second detective thingy and go back to just Goren & Eames, I had a bad feeling when they announced Goldblum ... axe him

  • totally agree beckacheck, except i dont miss chris noth and i thought juilanna's character was great.... sad to see this happeing to this show ):.....mad for an even later air date >:[

  • I agree, Beckacheck!!!

  • Who cares about the Goldblum episodes? Just air the Goren & Eames half. I've only been watching every other week anyway ever since Chris Noth moped and sneered his way back into the Law & Order universe.

  • Thanks for updating the Fox News source. Everything makes more sense now. Too bad. I like Jeff Goldblum. I've been watching Raines on Hulu and really enjoying it. Still, I wouldn't watch CI. It's too intense for me.

  • THIS SHOW HAS CHANGED SO MUCH I DONT WATCH IT ANYMORE

  • *gasp* I don't really watch this spin-off. I'm more into SVU but I planned on tuning in ESPECIALLY for Jeff Goldblum! I'm disappointed to hear it's not going well:-(

  • Another thought would be to bring back Ed Green -- just for a year, much like they're bringing back Cabot. It would certainly bring the viewers. Now, if they could just bring back Trial by Jury, the world would be right again.

  • Maybe they can sign Chris Noth for another year, just out of desparation.

  • Just make the rest with Vincent D'Onofrio too....

  • USA is running promos CI to start in the Spring

  • Just get on with it.

  • They seem in a mess and they're not sure what to do with this.

  • Sad. I was about to watch this show because of him.

  • I just want one of my favorite shows to be back. I don't care who they replace, as long as they don't get rid of Goren and Eames. I love episodes with those too!!!

  • I will confirm what IndianaMom posted - that you deliberately misconstrued what was reported by Fox News. Nowhere does it say that the fault lies with the cast. Why not blame Julianne Nicholson? She is also on the team. Jeff Goldblum is a consummate professional and a perfect choice to alternate LOCI episodes with VDO & Erbe. And I am a die hard LOCI/VDO fan!!

  • When I heard that Jeff Goldblum was joining the cast of Criminal Intent, I was less than enthusiastic. He's not the greatest actor and he rarely has chemistry with anyone he works with. The producers would be better off axing Goldblum and finding an actor who has as much charisma as Vincent D'Onofrio and start the season over.

  • I don't care about Jeff's Shows WERE IS VINCE?? GIVE ME HIS EPPIES!!

  • It's not a bad idea to put Eames and Wheeler together, however isn't the actress playing Wheeler about to have another child? Won't further delays put a crimp in the shooting schedule?

  • Thats why his show Raines got canned.

  • Goldblum cannot play acop I agree

  • Goldblum is not for this kind of show, I do not know what they were thinking.

  • I agree with cook567. All hail Munch!!

  • Bring in Belzer, Munch would be great!

  • too many law and orders anyway so i dont care just feel for the people waiting and waiting for it.

  • I had a feeling that this might happen. Goldblum is too quirky for this type of show. even raines didn't work out and he talked to people who were not even there. Maybe they need to bring back some one from the original who has not been there for a while. Just for a season to get the show back on its feet. Benjamin Bratt may be available or Michael Imperioli played a few episodes in the main show and could be brought in to criminal intent. if they go with a new character, they should go with someone who can play as dark as donofrio. Maybe James Spader after boston legal is over if he still wants to do a episodic show like this.

  • shut up!!!! I love Jeff goldblum, com'on !!!!!!

  • Ok, as I understand it they added the second set of characters and split the season in two becasue D'Onofrio has some medical issues or something with fatique. If they can't find a second lead who can carry the weight then here's a simple solution: only do half seasons. It's already been removed from NBC and put on USA becasue of ratings. If they did half seasons it would allow them more money (unless they slash the budget too), more time, less filming. Seems perfect to me.

  • Get rid of Goldblum. I have not liked him ever since he turned into a fly in the movie Fly. I don't know if anyone can replace hunky Chris Noth. That would be like trying to replace Christopher Meloni in Law & Order SVU. no no no

  • Now you're resorting to lies. Your "source," the article from Fox News, does not say anything of the kind about Jeff Goldblum. It actually says: "A spokesperson for USA said Wednesday that scheduling changes had nothing to do with the quality of the show and that they've been very happy with its creative direction now that Jeff Goldblum has joined the cast."

  • Essentially, all we have is the scent of a whiff of rumor. And consider your source--it's Fox. If Goldblum's the problem, It seems like someone should have been able to figure that out before they filmed two episodes. I'm more inclined to think the problem's on the writing end. Other than "Senseless," the Logan episodes were a lot less compelling than the Goren/Eames episodes last season.

  • I weirdly like Goldblum sometimes; but he clearly doesn't fit in with cop shows (see Raines). Law & Order picked him because they wanted a quirky lead like D'Onofrio, but I think the 'bumbling, spaced out, humble weirdo' schtick that Jeff does is a bit too extreme to match the serious material. The guy can do drama when he wants too; especially when you see his indie flick efforts. It's just that he doesn't want to do that anymore. He's happy being 'Jeff Goldblum'.

  • Fire Goldblum!!! I wanna watch my show, its to good to put on hold!!

  • just fire him and re-shoot his episodes with just Wheeler and Eames. I miss my show!

  • ughh... i don't think i can wait any longer...

  • Writing problems are often harder to fix.

  • Wow, that's sad. But, are the episodes bad because the actor is bad or because the writing is bad?

  • Of course they are awefull.... They star Jeff Goldblum... He is a terrible actor! Yeah, yeah, he was in Jurassic Park. Guess what, we went to see that because of the dinosaurs, not the acting!
