Sarah Connor rises to the Thrones

Sarah Connor rises to the Thrones
Queen Lena Headey.

If T-1000s still want to hunt down Sarah Connor and kill her unborn/born children, they'll have to move over to HBO. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles star Lena Headey has been anointed queen of HBO's upcoming fantasy series pilot Game of Thrones, says The Hollywood Reporter. "Awesome!" says TV.com.

The British actress will play Queen Cersei in the adaptation of George R.R. Martin's popular book series -- which features all sorts of Lords, Ladies, and other Renaissance Faire types gallivanting around on horseback in defense of a kingdom or a ring or some magic object. And just trust us, it will be fantastic. Also starring in the pilot are fantasy specialist Sean Bean (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), Peter Dinklage (The Station Agent), and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (New Amsterdam). If the pilot is decent, HBO would be crazy not to pick it up to series, as Game of Thrones is a hot property in an even hotter genre.

Headey is the latest Terminator star to find a new job, following Brian Austin Green's move to Smallville and Summer Glau's casting in Dollhouse. Thomas Dekker, who played John Connor, is dabbling in movies.

Headey isn't the only female favorite to land new digs this week. Megan Mullally, of Will & Grace fame, will take up catering comedy on the Starz original program Party Down, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Mullally's casting fills the gap left by Jane Lynch, who rightfully departed the series in favor of Fox's soon-to-be mega-hit Glee. As Lydia Dunfree, Mullally will play a single-mom who puts her stake in her 13-year-old daughter's chances of making it in Hollywood. We're putting our stake in finally forgetting that Mullally was on In the Motherhood.

The next season of Party Down parties on next spring.

  • "...which features all sorts of Lords, Ladies, and other Renaissance Faire types gallivanting around on horseback in defense of a kingdom or a ring or some magic object." This reveals that Tim Surette has no knowledge of the real plot. Utter bollocks.

  • Heroes and Lost are confusing to most, but still have a following! Some of us hate American Idol and its copies with dancing too. No need to criticize other people's favorites. I love Survivor though. Could not stand Fear Factor however. Let's be mature and agree to disagree please. Thank you!

  • If this show is as bad as TSCC, it's not worth it.

  • I was a HUGE fan of TSCC but she now has an opportunity to play a waaayyyyy more entertaining character. she actually will get to show alot more range

  • tscc would have been better, but who knows? maybe this show will be better, anyways I can't wait... maybe I'll read the books sometime ^_^

  • Sounds good :)

  • I'd rather have Terminator back. I'm going to miss that show.

  • Would have preferred HBO to pick up TSCC instead, but this could be worth a watch.

  • @staind47 The Song of Ice and Fire series is far from boring. I was pretty amazed at some of the things I read in those books. I wonder how much of it will be featured in the show. It IS about Lords and Ladies, Kings and Queens, etc... but there is little gallivanting... and lots of death. Murder, incest, rape, and lots of backstabbing and intrigue... its all in there. No one is safe in those books. Seriously... the Red Wedding tore me up.

  • Game of Thrones sounds good!

  • happy for her but i miss terminator sarah connor chronicles

  • Looks good. I'll have to check it out.

  • @TheUnforgiven The second paragraph gives a vague description sort of. I'll give almost any show at least a chance by looking at the pilot. But I just find the whole Renaissance/Medieval times with 'Lords, Ladies, horses and kingdoms' quite boring. But thats totally just me, I'm sure a lot of people enjoy it. Nothing wrong with that. Not everybody likes the same thing.

  • The story is very complex, the cast is gonna be HUGE (Heroes would pale in comparison). there are many POV, i don't know if it's feasible, but i'm gonna tune in (hoping they don't screw it up).

  • This sounds promesing.

  • I can't wait for Game of Thrones! I'm in the middle of Storm of Swords right now.. This series will be the biggest thing in the world if they do it right.

  • Glee looks absolutely awful, I just can't wait for more Party Down.

  • Nice to see 2 Fox show stars getting another gig. And better, it is not on Fox. :)

  • Sean Bean? I guess I have to see that! And Party Down - I like this show a lot!

  • Game of Thrones is a fantastic book! I love it! I hope the writers can handle the many characters and storylines it covers, it will be a tough job...

  • That's nice news and all... but I want them to bring back Sarah Conner! :(

  • Snik snik, just bring back the Terminator series.....

  • I she is a perfect fit for Queen Cersei, she just need to be blonde now... If they adapt it well, this show will be far from boring, book are just so good. For more information just search the book series "A Song Of Ice And Fire"

  • I'll be watching. I'm a big fan of hers.

  • How does the show sound boring, staind47? There's not even a valid description of it in this article.

  • Glad Lena was able to get another role so quickly, she's great. Show sounds maybe interesting too.

  • The show sounds rather boring, but glad she found work. She's really good, plus smoking hot.

  • I'm glad. She's hot.
