LOS ANGELES--Springfield continues to draw in the big names.

Fox president Peter Ligouri, speaking at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California, listed some of the celebrities who will lend their voices to the next season of animated comedy The Simpsons, which returns September 10. Natalie Portman, Kiefer Sutherland, Jon Lovitz, and Richard Lewis are among the A-listers lined up to make a mockery of themselves with America's funniest family.

Sopranos actors Joe Pantoliano and Michael Imperioli will play mobsters in an episode where Homer becomes a made man, and rock band the White Stripes will appear as themselves in an episode called "Jazzy and the Pussycats." Presumably the episode will feature a parody of Josie and the Pussycats.

To frighten viewers with the annual Simpsons Halloween episode, the producers have lined up one of the scariest voices in showbiz: Dr. Phil.

Other voices coming this season include novelists Tom Wolfe, Gore Vidal, Michael Chabon, and Jonathan Franzen, and Veronica Mars baddie Harry Hamlin.

  • now i really want to watch the next season

  • go dr phil

  • I wonder if Jon Lovits will play the critic in this episode that would be funny.

  • i hate dr.phil what a joke.

  • dr phil rules

  • Yeah but Futurama would have worked better then Family Guy. Im not affened with Family Guy and I love American Dad but I think The Simpsons would be higher if something better then "The War At Home" was afer it. But lets put American Dad to the test; I love that show but lets see how this goes.

  • PerfectDark0Fan: How can you say that The War at Home, Family Guy, & American Dad are hurting Fox. Here are the Nielsen Ratings from a Sunday night during the season. 7:30 p.m. King of the Hill Overnights: 4.5/ 7 (#4), Viewers: 6.40 million (#3), A18-49: 2.9/ 8 (#3) 8:00 p.m. The Simpsons Overnights: 6.9/10 (#4), Viewers: 10.19 million (#3), A18-49: 5.0/12 (#2) 8:30 p.m. The War at Home Overnights: 5.2/ 7 (#4), Viewers: 8.03 million (#4), A18-49: 3.8/ 9 (#2) 9:00 p.m. Family Guy Overnights: 5.8/ 8 (#4), Viewers: 8.97 million (#4), A18-49: 4.6/10 (#2) 9:30 p.m. American Dad Overnights: 5.0/ 7 (#4), Viewers: 7.94 million (#4), A18-49: 4.0/ 8 (#2) The Simpsons is only averageing a little over 1 million more veiwers than Family Guy and 2 more than War and Dad.

  • I can't belive how many clebs have been on the simpsons. I mean all of the last 3 beatles did the show how cool is that. I just wish scott bakula whold do a episode

  • The Simpsons is the logest running Comedy and the longest running aniumated primetime series. Gunsmoke: 20 Seasons The Simpsons: going on season 18 Law & Order: going on season 17 (but dosent diserve anything since the whole orgial cast is off the show and the constanly keep changing the detectives) Bonanza: 14 seasons ER: going on season 13 (like L&O this show also lost its hole cast but worse is the fact that they had a huge orgianl cast and lost them all.

  • Not to Nitpick MadHatter53, but the Cosby Show isnt even among the top 20 longest running sitcoms of all time. The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet at 14 seasons are way past Cosby's 8 seasons. And even the Simpsons have a ways to go to match Ozzie's 435 Episodes. Although this season they'll move into 2cd place passing My Three Sons.

  • I thought The Simpsons was the longest running fictional TV program ever. I know when it surpassed The Cosby Show it became the longest running sitcom ever, but I thought it was the longest all together. Is this true about Gunsmoke? If so, are there any other contenders that can even touch The Simpsons? While I do wonder about future story lines and whether or not they have come to exhaust everything, I have no doubts they will make at least 20 seaons, because they have the movie planned for like 2 years from now. If it went off the air before the movie came out, a lot of the interest might die off, which a studio wouldn't want to risk. Plus the episodes can probably get bad (not that I would ever critisize the Simpsons) as long as they keep pulling in their massive ratings as they have been for the last 18 years.

  • Gunsmoke had 20 seasons? I thought The Simpsons was the longest running fictional program ever? I knew when it surpassed The Cosby Show it was the longest running Sitcom ever, but I thought that it eventually because the longest running SHOW all together (aside from SNL, soap operas and such). Is this true about Gunsmoke? If so, are there any other shows that have surpassed the Simpsons in their, isn't it 18 seasons this fall?

  • Yeah its The Simpsons that keeps Fox Sundays ratings right because its the most watched Fox Sunday show. Shows like "The War At Home, Family Guy, American Dad" are hurting Fox Sunday and they need to be cancelled while I hope the Simpsons will last to be the longest running primetime show which atleast has to beat Gunsmoke's 20 seasons and stay ahead of the original Law & Order.

  • Yeah, this show must be horrible to be on almost what - 18 seasons. *Do you detect sarcasm - hope so* Look at Desperate Housewife's - crap after the first season. Stop whining & moaning! Don't like it - don't watch. Apparently enough people are watching to to keep it on the air. We all know how fast The Simpson's would be yanked off the air if it wasn't pulling the ratings FOX wanted.

  • Sounds interesting. Can't wait for the Kiefer Sutherland episode.

  • Dr. Phil yay!!!

  • Why won't this show die? At least Seinfeld died off at the opportune time--they thought it wouldn't last, so they pulled out before the show started to suck. The Simpsons, however, continues to suck. I no longer hold any interest or care for this show.

  • I herd Kiefer Sutherland's episode will be a terrorist type episode like 24.

  • the last few seasons have been poop. lets hope this season is better

  • i follow kiefer :-D i just hope they don't mess up his appearance with a lame episode.

  • oh i wonder what they will do with keifer on the show? maybe a 24 write-off!

  • The next season sounds pretty interesting, can't wait for it to begin.

  • DR. PHIL!!! AHHH!!! I blame Scary Movie 4.

  • Jon Lovitz is always great on the Simpsons and I can't wait. I herd Kiefer Sutherland's episode is a terrorist type episode. Joe Pantoliano and Michael Imperioli playing mobsters though im hoping Joe Mantegna's character Fat Tony will be on also.

  • Sorry, accidentally hit post too many times after my computer froze.

  • to shsteve: remember when simpsons wasn't nearly 20 years old? Simpsons is still hilarious and never dissapoints even at so many seasons. No one is to blame as to why the show became less funny. It still is, and it does its best to remain as fresh as a 15 + seasoned show can.

  • Remember when The Simpsons didn't feature so many celebs? Christ, remember when The Simpsons was laugh out loud funny? I blame the Mel Gibson episode really. He had more voice time than than previous guests and it just became the trend right after that. Joe Pantoliano as another gangster? Wow, how original. The man was awesome in Memento. Give him some credit! Don't turn him into another Brad Dourif!!
