Actor Sean Astin, who starred as Sam the
Hobbit in the big-screen version of
the Lord of the Rings trilogy,
will jump onto the small screen this fall when he
joins the cast of the Fox terrorist show
24.
Fox is not releasing any details as to what character
Astin will play, other than the fact that he will be
working for CTU, the government agency devoted
to fighting terrorism.
24 stars Kiefer Sutherland as US Counter Terrorist agent Jack Bauer, who each season must race against the clock to stop a terrorist plot from taking lives and wreaking havoc on American soil. The show unfolds in "real time," meaning one episode equals one hour of the day and a full season eventually adds up to one solitary day.
Recently, Fox announced that several other actors were also joining the 24 cast: Jean Smart, Connie Britton, and Brady Corbett. Several weeks ago it was announced that Carlos Bernard, who plays the pivotal role of fellow terrorist-buster Tony Almeida, will also be returning.
The fifth season of 24 begins in January.
