As Dana & begin to work together, Dana has to tell a surrogate couple that their unborn baby has a defect that will cause it to be mentally disable. After the surrogate couple tells Dana they will put the baby up for adoption. Dana tries to get the biological mother, who can barely afford to take care of her other children, to keep her baby. Lu finds out that a woman who claims to have had a hysterectomy has not.

The woman who carried the baby is the surrogate, not the biological mother. The couple that decided they didn't want the child were the biological parents.

In this episode we learn that Lu got pregnant with Marc at 17 and was originally planning to give him up for adoption

In this episode we also learn that Lu is about 28-30 years old since she is 17 and Marc is about 11-13 years old. We also learn that Marc must be in sixth or seventh grade as he gets beat up by "some eighth graders". He grows up pretty fast because he enters high school in early season three.
