Jon Foreman (about Switchfoot's album Nothing is Sound): What is true happiness? Is it a comfortable 4-door Sedan with tinted windows? Does it mean I have 2.3 children and a beautiful wife and live in a great neighborhood? Everyone has their own version of what happiness means, but many of the things we're going for, and I include myself in this, are absurd. There's this moment in Jewish scripture, in Ecclesiastes, where it says, "Meaningless, meaningless, everything is meaningless." That's the place where our new record starts.
(edit)
Chad Butler: At times. I think there’s nothing better then being out as the sun is setting. Sometimes I’ll surf alone and just be out there with God and the dolphins. Those are amazing experiences.
(edit)
Jon Foreman: I feel like one of the reasons why U2's music has meant so much to me over the years is because of they're not afraid to talk about what's going on spiritually, and it connects with you on a spiritual level. And I guess we're attempting to do the same thing.
(edit) Jon Foreman: If anything, we're more about the politics of the heart, the politics of the inside. Of course, everyone wants peace. But I think a lot of times, we overlook the fact that external peace can never happen until internal peace happens. (edit) Tim Foreman: Whether it was Bob Dylan or Bob Marley or James Taylor, there are a lot of songs that got me through hard times growing up. To have a kid come up after a show and say, I was really contemplating suicide and I heard your song, what do you say to that? That's obviously much bigger than just four guys playing music. But it's an amazing feeling. (edit)
