Berle missed this week's show. On Monday, he was admitted to the hospital suffering from another bout of exhaustion. Singer Vic Damone was first announced as Berle's replacement, but Jan Murray was flown from New York to Los Angeles for the job. Eddie Cantor was also scheduled to appear as a guest, but he became ill and did not perform.
