  • Goof:
When Murdock and Face are in the crop duster, you see Murdock singing. You can also see the sound of his singing and the movement of his lips are out of synch. []
  • Colonel Flores' last name means "flowers" in Spanish. Malavida Valdez's first name means "bad life." []
  • When Colonel Flores (which means "Flowers") says, "You have a very irritating manner seņor," Hannibal replies, "Yeah, I know. I've been working on my personality. Read the Don Rickles book and everything. Nothing seems to be helping."

Don Rickles is a comedian known for his insults (like the ones Hannibal tosses at Flores and Malavida "Bad Life" Valdez) who has been nicknamed "The Merchant of Venom." []
  • The red biplane that Murdock flies is a Waco, which is not pronounced "Way-co" like the town in Texas, but "Wacko." As in "crazy." Which makes it a perfect fit for Murdock!

The Waco (which gets its name from the manufacturer, the Weaver Aircraft Company) is still a great favorite with aviation buffs. The Taperwing models in particular were, according to the Waco Aircraft Museum, "known for their outstanding acrobatic qualities." You can see some of that demonstrated in this episode with loops, turns, and rolls. []
More Notes
  • Colonel Flores: So, you are the man who's been causing seņor Valdez so much trouble.
Hannibal: Didn't take much to cause any trouble. He keeps tripping over his I.Q. []
  • Colonel Flores: You have a very irritating manner seņor.
Hannibal: Yeah, I know, I've been working on my personality. Read the Don Rickles book and everything. Nothing seems to be helping. []
  • Hannibal: They're closing.
    B.A.: They got us.
    Hannibal: You never know.
B.A.: I do. We're almost out of gas.
Hannibal: Now why did you pick a truck with no gas?
B.A.: 'Cause I liked the paint job. []

Allusions

  • Hannibal insults Colonel Flores by saying, "[You're] making believe you're Che Guevara...."

Che Guevara was a Marxist revolutionary and guerrilla fighter who helped Castro to overthrow Batista in Cuba in 1959. He went on to fight in Congo-Kinshasa and Bolivia, where he was executed in 1967, making him a cult hero for many young people of that era. He is one of only two Latin Americans on the Time 100 list. []
  • When Face shoots off the prop on the biplane, Murdock utters, "Good-bye, sweet prince." This is an allusion to a well-known line from Hamlet. Just after Hamlet collapses in death, his best friend, Horatio, utters these words: "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince:
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!" []
