As a present from a friend, Mr. Drysdale receives a kangaroo. He has nothing to do with it, so he decides to give it to the zoo. He has it go home to stay in his garage, but it escapes.

The Clampetts have their common problem of not having any food. They call Beverly Caterers, who they think is a widow, not a food service. But the woman who answers thinks they are crazy, so doesn't pay any attention and back talks them. The Clampetts tell Mr. Drysdale and Miss Jane, who arrange to have food delivered.

But Granny has found a solution. She has seen a jackrabbit that she thinks could jump over the house. The only problem is that no one believes her, and Jed just thinks she has been hitting the jug a little too much. Granny does whatever she can to catch the “rabbit,” actually the kangaroo from Drysdale’s friend, and even fist fights it. She just cannot convince anyone that what she saw is true. She is told to lie down, by Jed, who tells her, after losing her glasses, that there are giant jackrabbits of various colors on the lawn. She one again sees this “vision” while lying down. But no one can figure out where she is hiding the jugs.

Beverly Caterers stop by to deliver food, and the girl’s boss convinces her that Mr. Clampett will forgive her, especially if he is between the ages of 15 and 95. They offer their services, and Granny finally ensnares the jackrabbit. She drags it back to the kitchen, telling Beverly Caterers she can cook it. But Elly’s ape Skipper is on the rope, having untied Granny’s proof.

At the end of it all, the kangaroo/giant jackrabbit returns to the cage, and no one can understand why it chose a cage over freedom. Granny asks the neighbors if they saw the giant jack rabbit, but she is told that there aren’t any in Beverly Hills. Elly comes running up, and tells Granny she caught something in her snare. Granny finally has her proof, until Jed asks Elly what was caught. Granny didn’t catch her 6-foot Jackrabbit, but instead, Jethro.
