It's the before daylight, and Granny is waking up the family so they can get to their new store: The House of Granny. Jethro wakes up sleepy, not wanting to be up, but as soon as Granny mentions breakfast, he is dressed in a split second. Jed is carving a Y in the kitchen, and when Jethro sees the shavings in the bowl, he thinks it is cereal. Jed tells him to have corn flakes instead. Granny goes to wake up Elly May, telling her that their store opens at a decent hour - the crack of dawn! Granny sees the Y Jed is making, thinking it is a slingshot. Jethro tells her it is a Y, and she thinks that he is sassing her. Jethro leaves to say he's going to stick "Granny" upside the wall, which makes Granny hit him.

Jed and Jethro go to open the store, and get arrested after the cop thinks they are trying to break in, while they are only trying to pick the lock because they don’t have a key. They call Granny and Elly, who tell Mr. Drysdale, who gets arrested too. Jane goes to bail them out, and the officer thinks she is drunk. But that gets resolved, and the store opens, complete with checkers, a barber chair, pickles and crackers, and homemade dresses.

Maurice comes, first being told he is fired for being late, and when asked what he wants to do, he tells them he always wanted to be a couturier. Jed tells him he can, and he hugs Jed. But if that is an example of what he does, he can return to opening doors. Drysdale and Jane visit, but Jane rushes away, leaving Drysdale there for a shave and a haircut. He returns to the office, a wreck, and forces Jane to go back. When a customer comes for a new wardrobe Maurice promised for her, she is scared by the hillbilly hospitality. At the end, Jed decides to turn his store over to Maurice.
