Johnny is at home preparing to go out and notices a photo that Sarah put up, one where she looks happy for the first time since Walt died. Johnny is off to pick Sarah’s friend Elaine at the bus station. After chatting briefly with a guy who seems inordinately curious, Johnny locates Elaine, a crossword puzzle writer with a bit of an attitude. Johnny leans up against the wall and finds himself in the midst of a frozen future explosion. Gong by a clock on the wall, he figures the explosion will occur in 50 minutes.

Johnny tries to get Elaine out of the building but goes to the guard, but gets a vision of his being held for interrogation until the bomb goes off. He finds Elaine who offers her help with the puzzle and suggests announcing the news. Johnny gets a vision of the panic that results and warns her not to. When a man comes up demanding to know if the Boston bus has arrived, Johnny touches him and gets another vision of the future-explosion, but this time he sees the man holding a remote control. Johnny needs to look in his bag so Elaine runs a distraction on the man, Dave. He spots his wife and son, and the wife Marcia isn’t thrilled with him being late. She refuses to leave her son Tyler with him for the weekend and departs. Johnny goes to help Marcia when she drops her purse and he gets a vision of her receiving news from a doctor that she only has a couple of months to live and will be leaving Tyler with her parents.

Johnny sits down next to Dave and tells him about his wife’s condition while Elaine switches bags. A woman in a wheelchair brushes past and when Johnny touches her he’s back at the future-explosion he sees her wheelchair wheel being thrown into the air and believes she is now responsible. Elaine notices something under her jacket and Johnny goes over and claims to be security. When he touches the woman, Daisy, he gets a vision of her at a rehabilitation center and claims to have met her there. He manages to calm her down and Johnny then calls her husband, Peter Hanson. When Johnny gets through he gets a vision of the man typing an e-mail saying he can’t handle the stress. Peter hangs up on Johnny and calls her, and they have a tearful conversation. They resolve their differences and she leaves, but Elaine figures that Daisy will now lead them to someone else that Johnny needs to solve the mystery. A man trips on the spilled water from Daisy’s bottle, but when Johnny helps the man up he gets nothing, and they have 14 minutes left.

Johnny goes back over the bus station and bumps into a repairman, Lewis, and sees the circuit box near the heart of the explosion. As they look on, Lewis is taken away by security to a restricted area, while the man Johnny first met at the station from earlier watches them. Elaine drops an earring beneath the door and gets a clerk to open the door, then distracts her while Johnny slips into the restricted area. He sees the man being fired for absenteeism and when he comes out, Johnny touches him and gets a vision of him working on a portrait and being called away by a woman. The security guard and supervisor confront him and Johnny tells him Lewis is a danger and goes off after him.

The man from earlier talks to Elaine again and shows a badge identifying him as a member of Homeland Security. With six minutes left, , Johnny and try to explain that Lewis plans to set off the explosion. The agent confronts Lewis and demands to see what’s in a suspicious-looking cylinder. It turns out to be a portrait of the supervisor, Nancy, who Lewis is clearly in love with. She asks to see it when he’s finished, but Johnny doesn’t think it’s over. He goes to the circuit box and gets a vision of the future-explosion again, and a desperate Elaine confronts him to say Sarah loves him. He then struggles with the agent and gets a vision of the man’s gun accidentally going off, hitting the battery of Daisy’s wheelchair and setting off the explosion. Johnny figures out that he caused it and goes stock-still. Lewis’ ladder falls, his painting cylinder knocks Dave astride and his remote car bumps into the agent. Johnny catches the gun before it sets off the wheelchair battery, saving the day. Johnny then spins a story about how Elaine was going to ask the agent on a date at exactly 10:55 and they were stalling the agent.

Later Johnny looks on as Peter is reunited with Daisy, Dave makes things up with Marcia, and Lewis and Nancy end up together. Even Elaine has a happy ending with the agent. Later back at his house, Elaine talks about how she set up a date with the agent then admits that Sarah told her about the kiss. She wants to know why Johnny isn’t moving forward with the relationship, but he’s concerned that a life with him is no kind of life. Elaine points out that he improved all their lives and she shoves Johnny up to see Sarah. Johnny checks on the baby, Hope, then pauses outside Sarah’s room… and walks away.
