This is the evidence.
black flash
The victim is alive, but limping. Two people are talking in the centre of some crowed. The two speak two the victim guy (Tommy). They start a fight and Tommy lands in the car window that breaks immediately. They start a fist fight. A fourth person breaks the fight up. Tommy leaves barley able to walk.
Flash over some buildings
Tommy walks in the street. A transsexual prostitute asks him if he was beaten up by his girlfriend, but Tommy doesn’t even react.
Some boy talks to Tommy, but Tommy pulls him away, but the boy fallows him.
The next day: The camera moves from Golden Gate over the city and a speed boat to a diner.
Inside Cole and Bishop have breakfast.
Credits start
They talk about the time Bishop needs to decide what he wants to eat. Cole is angry. Cole is shocked that Bishop wears cologne. Their pager sum and they leave immediately.
Flashes of the city
Cole and Bishop are at the crime scene. Their lieutenant is already there. They talk to Officer Jackie Kazaris and another officer about the dead. No witnesses yet. Emily Stevens is by the body. They take a look at it. Bishop is shocked how hard the body is beaten.
Flashes of the evidence
Flash of the beating we saw at the beginning
They discuss a tattoo and Emily tells them he might have been married, because there were traces of a ring, but it isn’t there anymore. Some address is imprinted at his hand palm.
They go there the camera flashes over the city hall and some streetcars.
They enter a second hand store. They talk to the owner. He tells them that he has already sold that ring from the dead guy. He has no names for the officers. He tells them that he had boxing gloves with him. flash of the gloves in the evidence room. They find out the name of the boxing club.
Flashes of Golden Gate and the city
Inside the boxing club: People are training.
Cole and Bishop go to the owner and talk to him. They ask him if he knows who the dead body is and he tells them that it is Tommy, Tommy Howe. He was his trainer and he tells them that there was a fight last night. He fought Lucas Warren. He tells them that Tommy lost the fight.
A memory scene of the coach and Tommy: They discuss a feature fight.
The manager of last night opponent enters. They talk about the after match fight outside. The fight we saw at the beginning.
They ask about the wedding ring, but nobody knows that Tommy was married and the financial situation.
Back at the police station: Cole and Bishop discuss the case while walking inside.
Bishop gets a strange phone call.
In the next scene Cole and Bishop inform themselves by Doctor Goldman about the dead body. Goldman tells them that he hasn’t a final result yet. They discuss if it might have been Tommy’s wife who beat him up, because he sold the wedding ring, but Goldman tells them that he doubts that, because of the injuries.
Flashback to the boxing fight
Tommy goes down.

The camera shows us a street, before it moves to Cole and Bishop inside an apartment building. They discuss that it’s strange that a poor amateur boxer could afford such a place.
They knock on the door of apartment 504. A man opens the door. They ask for Mrs Howe. He asks if it’s about Tommy. He tells them that there is no Mrs Howe: He is his husband.
They talk inside. Tommy was gay, but didn’t tell anyone.
They got married, even though the state annulled it again.
They talk about the sold wedding ring. He informs them about their financial situation. The officers ask the husband about Tommy and prostitutes. The husband tells them that that was impossible.
Outside Cole and Bishop talk about the case again.
Back at the police station Cole and Bishop inform their lieutenant. Bishop looks at a plastic frog staying on the table. It’s an animal that never sleeps.
flash through the city again, this time over the marina
Inside the car Cole and bishop discuss about the dead person again. Bishop hits the breaks so Cole almost hits the front window. The reason: Bishop has spotted an attractive young woman. She passes by in front of them and Bishop calls for her. She smiles.
Cole tells bishop that he has issues.
They talk about Cole’s life.
Next scene in a dark street where prostitutes stand around, Cole and Bishop show a picture of Tommy around. They talk to the transsexual prostitute we saw at the beginning. She/he informs them that she saw Tommy, but went to “new sweet thing”.
They talk to that boy. He tells them that Tommy wasn’t interested, even when he offered him half price. Flashes of the scene from last night
He tells them that he threw something away in a dumpster.
Back at the evidence room: The entire team goes through the garbage when they search for a paper with handwriting on it.
Goldman tells them: It doesn’t bite!
They find the peace of paper: The crossword puzzle from the evidence in the opening.

Flash over San Francisco
Cole and Bishop are standing in the middle of all evidence they’ve collected so far and take a look at the crossword page. Cole tells Bishop that this is a booking receipt.
Emily enters. She has good news. She found out what kind of boot was used to harm Tommy.
We see the scene where this happens again
It’s a military boot. It’s from the boy fight opponent. That guy has a nice record.
At the evidence room Cole, Bishop and Goldman are taking a look at the gloves. They look at some bone fractures too. Goldman tells them that he is irritated that these gloves are so wet. All think that’s because a boxer sweat during the fight. Goldman tells them that the fight is over for 30 hours and the gloves should be dry.
In the interrogation room Cole and bishop ask Mr. Warren questions about the fight. He tells them that he could kill Tommy in the ring, so he hasn’t done it at all. They talk about the gloves and the after game fight. He tells them he was in a biker bar at the time of the murder.
The camera shows flashes of the city again
At the biker bar Cole complains to Bishop that now his entire car smells like the cologne now. Bishop gets a page. It’s Louis, Bishop’s brother. Again. He needs a place to stay when he comes out of prison soon. Cole tells him not to do it.
Inside the biker bar everyone looks at the two. They say that biker and gay bars are almost the same: A lot of leather and a lot of moustaches.
They talk to the bar lady. She knows the boxer. She tells them about the evening. She tells them how long they were in. It was Warren and some fiend of his.
Cole gets a call.
Bishop gives the woman his cars, but she burns it immediately.
Outside again: Cole informs Bishop about the news he just got. They found out about Tommy’s tattoo and a life insurance in favour for his husband.

the Camera move over the city again
Back at Tommy’s husband: He informs them that the insurance is in his favour, but the insurance company didn’t agree with that. He even tells them that he can’t pay the final coast, because he has no legal rights to do so.
Pasta sauce is cooking over.
They inform Tommy’s husband that Tommy bet on himself with the money from the wedding ring. He tells them that he might have pressured Tommy, but he tells them that he was ready to move and sell everything. He just wanted that Tommy stopped fighting.
Back at the police station:
Cole runs into Jackie Kazaris again. They talk a bit. She asks him if he needs help with the case. He turns down the offer. She tells him she just asked, because she has other work to do. Then Cole tells her that the blue from the uniform matches her beauty.
Bishop smiles at Cole and wants to know if he invited her for a date. Cole tells him about the embarrassing compliment he just made. They have to go.
Bishop tells Cole he has to visit his brother and leaves.
At the prison Louis and Bishop talk. Louis has only ten more days till he gets out. They talk about their weight. Louis tells Bishop that he is grateful for everything. Louis tells him that he thinks that he’s abetter man.
Lt. Brenner and Cole talk about the case. Goldman joins them. He compliments Brenner for her beauty but she turns him down. Now Goldman shows Cole what he has found out.
Goldman shows Cole that in the gloves was ice during the fight that melted. With that hard piece the hits can be much stronger.

The city by night
Inside the boxing gym: Cole and Bishop enter and talk about the ice and the referee.
The coach talks to a boxer with a miniature baseball bat in his hand.

They go into the office. The coach tells them that he wouldn’t waste his business for 900 dollars and manipulate the game.
In the other room Warren and his lawyer are questioned by Cole. He offers a deal.
Warren tells everything he knows. So 6000 was the price for Tommy’s life. Cole leaves.
In the other room Bishop informs the coach that they accuse him of murdering Tommy.
At Lt. Brenner they discuss the possibility of arresting the coach, but there isn’t enough evidence.
They don’t have proof of the illegal bets. So they search for one that can handle 10’000 dollar.
Goldman enters with a plastic bowl and tells Bishop and Cole to take a look at Tommy’s stomach content. A high dose of aspirin: The cause of death!

They discuss the amount of drugs. Tommy couldn’t have known what it is, otherwise it would have been suicide.

Bishop, Cole and Goldman still discuss this. Goldman tells them that the aspirin and the heavy gloves worked together. The hammering did the damage and the aspirin worked against to body to recover from that.
Flash of the fight
They guess who might have given him the aspirin.

They get an address of a book maker. So Cole questions him. They tell him that he can walk if he talks. So he talks. He tells them about the bet. He got the money from Camelorka, but it came from Marshall the coach of Tommy. So the own man bet against him.
during that, several flashes of the city by night
Tommy’s husband enters the hall where Tommy had his fights. A boxer passes by covered in blood others are warming up.
Behind the ring Camelorka and Marshall talk. They discuss further manipulations, but Camelorka doesn’t want anymore. So he leaves.
Tommy’s husband enters and asks Marshall some questions.
Outside a fight starts.
Back in the training room Marshall prepares to fight Tommy’s husband with the bat flashes of the evidence bat
Bishop and Cole enter the building with some other cops.
They take a look around.
Marshall hits Tommy’s husband with the bat.
Bishop enters the ring and stops the fights. People shout.
Cole enters the backyard and can stop Marshall of killing Tommy’s husband.
Bishop arrests Cmelorka and Cole Marshall. The picture freezes at Camelorka.
Goldman presents the evidence again.
Flashbacks of the episode pass by
The city by night again: Cole and Bishop enter the diner from the beginning. Bishop first sends a letter with a key to his brother.
Inside Cole gets asked about the cologne by another man. Cole tells it isn’t his, it’s his partner’s. The man understands (and both now that the other man is thinking Cole is gay like him). The guy tells him he didn’t saw the ring and it’s sad that the good ones are taken. Cole smiles and drinks his coffee.
