I have just purchased "The Fugitive" TV series on DVD. There are only 15 episodes of the first season and episodes have undergone a frame by frame restoration, rescored soundtrack and episodes re uncut and NO Cal Worthington or Mr. Whipple to disturb your viewing. It is also great seeing David Janssen and great guest stars that are well established, those that are getting started and those who are no longer with us.

Being a fan of nostalgia, I wouldn't mind seeing Cal Worthington or Mr. Whipple, though for the official DVD release it would be okay for the commercials and station IDs to be shown seperately, as a special feature. What are the special features?

Unfortunately there are no bonus features at all...

But the thrill of actually having the DVDs almost compensates for that. I love watching the restored black and white and the restored soundtrack.

I just wish it were the entire first season instead of only half. It means that we'll end up paying about $240 for the entire series.

That's too bad. One reason why I got a DVD player in the first place was because I was impressed with the special features I saw on some DVDs. I hope future releases will include them.

Some shows are great about the extras and some not so much...

The first season of "Bewitched" had some really fun extras, but shows like "McMillan and Wife" and "Emergency" have none.

I guess one of the problems with extras for "The Fugitive" is that almost everyone associated with the show is dead.

David Janssen, William Conrad, Bill Raisch (one-armed man, Quinn Martin are all dead and even Barry Morse is 90 years old.

The best featurettes are the ones that are able to interview the actual participants.

Aside from the first season of The Wild Wild West, Paramount hasn't done a whole of lot special features for their old TV on DVD. Of course, the picture and audio on these (including The Fugitive) is so good, it's hard to complain, but...

For some more examples of some great extras onold TV, check out Time-Life's Get Smart set with a TON of bonus material, both archival and current. Also, the "Definitive Editions" of the original Twilight Zone had a bunch of stuff, including commercials from the period.

Oh, and The Fugitive on DVD is fantastic. My favorites from the first 15 are "Fear in a Desert City," "Ticket to Alaska" and "Girl from Little Egypt." I hope Volume 1 sold well enough so more volumes roll out in the next few months.
