Yesterday's JamEpisode Number: 1 Season Num: 1 First Aired: Friday February 3, 2006 Prod Code: n/a |
Jen applies for a job at Reynholm Industries and is hired by the company's eccentric CEO, Denholm. Based on the skills she listed on her CV, Denholm makes Jen the manager for the IT department. However, Jen doesn't know the first thing about computers and Denholm is too dense to notice.
Jen is sent to the IT department, which is located in the basement. Amidst the cluttered and dank offices, Jen meets Moss and Roy, the two geeks that make up the IT department. It's clear from the get-go that Jen doesn't want to work in the basement and Moss and Roy don't want a manager that doesn't know a thing about computers.

Moss: It's the new Harry Potter. I got the child edition and the adult edition, just to check that there are no differences in the text.
(edit)
Jen: (staring out of the 34th floor window) I feel like I'm on top of the world.
Denholm: OK Jen, this is where I leave you. (directing Jen to the lifts)
Jen: (giggling) OK, where am I going?
Denholm: All the way down to the basement. (edit) Jen: Oh. Unisex toilets? You have unisex toilets like on Ally McBeal?
Denholm: That's the kind of place this is Jen. Lots of sexy people, not doing much work, and having affairs. (edit) Roy: It's that they're pally-wally when there's a problem with their printer, but once it's fixed...
Moss: They toss us away like yesterday's jam.
Roy: Yes! Yesterday's jam! That is what we are to them!
(Phone rings and Roy goes to answer it, but pauses.)
Roy: You know what? That doesn't really work as a thing. Because jam lasts for ages. (edit) Roy: I mean, they have no respect for us up there. No respect whatsoever. We're all just drudgens to them
Moss: Yes. If there was such a thing as a drudgen, that is what we'd be to them. (edit)

This stands for "Read the Fucking Manual", a common cry among IT Help Desk workers. (edit) Moss: It's the new Harry Potter. I got the child edition and the adult edition, just to check that there are no differences in the text.
A reference to the series of books written by J.K. Rowling; they are published with different covers, but that is the only difference. (edit) Jen: Oooh. Unisex toilets? You have unisex toilets like on Ally McBeal?
Ally McBeal is a television series that aired on the FOX Network in the US. (edit)

Yesterday's JamAbysmal "Revealing" I've always had a dislike for laugh tracks. In this day and age it is very easy to tell when they are being used. It always disappoints me when they are. An otherwise funny show if ruined by a poor laugh track. Continue » Posted Aug 17, 2006 7:40 am PST |

Yesterday's JamGreat "Pilot episode" It's clear from the start that "The IT Crowd" isn't your typical comedy. From Denholm, the insane boss, to Jen, the pathological liar, it's easy to see that this is going to be one of the hardest comedies to play - farce. Continue » Posted Feb 19, 2006 7:54 pm PST |
